Default Should Washington, Oregon and California join Canada?

What are your thoughts on these 3 states joining Canada?

Quote:
The #calexit movement, formed in response to Donald Trump winning the presidential election, has enveloped California’s West Coast neighbors and spiritual counterparts, Washington and Oregon. The three Pacific Coast states overwhelmingly voted for Hillary Clinton. She received 55 percent of the vote in Washington, 62 percent in California and 52 percent in Oregon.

Is this crazy talk? Probably. But residents of the Best Coast have a lot in common with our northern neighbors. The three states have long been working with British Columbia to combat climate change. All three new potential provinces have legalized cannabis, which Canada is moving toward. Don’t forget Canada’s universal health care. We love health care for all here on the coast.

The question of whether a State can secede from the Union or not was settled in the 1860's.

Would never happen, California would be such a massive loss economically, there is no scenario I could see where the Federal Government would allow it. You would have to think the US would fragment further if those three states left.

Anyone willing to quit and leave when things don't go their way are not people I want in my country regardless of who they voted for.

As much as I'd love to add the California economy to the Canadian tax base, No. This is silly.

If you think we have enough divide in Canadian mentalities now (East vs West) wait till we get some Americans in the mix and it becomes North vs South.

The article seems more concerned about what they'd call themselves versus all the other issues that joining us would entail (death penalty, guns, etc.).

This would be great as I enjoy traveling to all three of those states. It would make things a lot easier. Also we would gain three Canadian hockey teams and perhaps a 4th when Seattle gets one.

Makes more sense to have "Cascadia" as some have proposed, more in line with region values than simply joining Canada.

Random thoughts that come up when I think of this idea.....

- Would more than double our population. California is about same population as Canada. I believe their economy is bigger than all of Canada's as well.

- Canada would inherit a gang problem. LA is gang capital of the world.

- Canada would have 2 borders. US and Mexico.

- Canada would become the movie and porn capital of the world.

- Canadians could travel within country to year round warm weather destinations.

- Those 3 states are too liberal for my liking. I am center left or center right depending on issues.

- Sports, Sports, Sports!!!!! Canada would go from 7 to 10 NHL teams and maybe win a Stanley Cup sooner. We would get our first NFL franchises (LA X2, Oakland, SF, Seattle), more NBA (LA X2, Golden State, Sacramento, Portland), MLB (Seattle, SF, Oak, LAX2, San Diego). Maybe CFL could have legit expansion to Sacramento, Portland, San Diego etc.

- Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon etc. would become Canadian companies. A good chunk of biggest US companies would leave US.

- More "dirty" oil.

Summary: I don't think the US lets California walk. Maybe Washington and Oregon.

Aha! There it is! All this is a ploy to move up the date the last time a Canadian team won the cup.

No kidding. It's a four year term not a life sentence. I'm not a fan of Justin using his stint as PM as his UN seat bid but it is what it is. I'm not going to waist my time protesting what can't be changed.
