Fact that this is only one game annoys me. Why is scoring "down"? Because talented players are being keyed in on illegally and there's no real repercussions.

Crosscheck to the neck? Dubisnky should have gotten 5 + a game last night, followed by this suspension or perhaps a 3 game suspension.

Scoring isn't down league wide because of plays like this.

It's a combination of advanced defensive systems, massive goalies, and more talented players being honed as defensive specialists in the third and fourth line.

One game suspension is fine, it didn't look like he hit him that hard, but it was still over the top.

Did not look like Dubinsky was trying to hit Crosby above his head, but it was a reckless move none the less

The second crosscheck was enough to break the stick.

There are two suspendable fouls by dubinsky on the play, a crosscheck to the head/neck and a second crosscheck to a down and injured player.

1 game is a joke.

Honestly dont know if he was going for the head/neck, looked like it rode up the shoulder. But dirty non the less.

With Crosby having neck issues already this isn't good

Why bother? If a blatant cross check to the head of one of the game's faces and stars that sells the game is only worth one game, it's open season on heads I guess.

Jesus NHL.

For my tastes, that should be a 3 to 5 game suspension. A direct crosscheck to the neck area. Blatant and deliberate.

Although hits to the head can lead to devastating injuries, many times they are incidental and the offending player wasn't trying to pop a guy in the head. A crosscheck to the neck is a deliberate play. Warrants at least 3 in my opinion. No need for crosschecks, nevermind a crosscheck to the neck.

Cross checks like this in front of the net happen nearly every game unfortunately. Most of the time players aren't seriously hurt so it's never a major issue but this happened to a top player and he left the game. I can see the NHLPA easily getting a 5 game suspension overturned which is why the NHL probably only gave him the one game as they knew there's likely little chance of appeal.

That was a harsh suspension and I'm sure it will deter similar acts in the future.

It annoys me how dumb the disciplinary process is in the NHL.

Why not just callup a scrub from the farm each time your team plays someone who is on fire and cross check the Crosbys, Ovis, Stammers & Benns as hard as you can in the throat.

Scrub gets a 1 gamer, star is out of the game. Not honorable, but that's basically the message the league is sending.

Because the team would get massive fine and the players on the team that did it would revolt

Just like the players revolted every time Matt Cooke or Raffi Torres sent somebody to the hosptal?

Or like the huge fines teams get when one of these guys knocks a player out with a deliberate headshot for the 10th time?

If the team called a player up everytime they faced a hot superstar it's quite different from the situations you're describing. There's no coach/gm ordering Cooke to be an ass hole.

A closer example would be Moore/Bertuzzi, but happening every other game

Also Bertuzzi was a top line player at the time, not a callup plug.
