Default Glen Campbell dead at 81

I think he'd been really sick for a long time with Alzheimer, but at his height he was a pivotal part of the Nashville sound. He was probably one of the more productive artists with 70 albums in 50 years he won 4 Grammy's and had a huge list of hits. But his biggest hit was

RIP

The documentary about his final tour as he struggled with Alzheimer's is on Netflix. It's very sad, but the guy lived one hell of a life.

Rhinestone Cowboy was my first favourite song as a kid. I remember bugging my dad to move the needle back on the record, so I could listen to it over and over again.

Witchita Lineman is my new favourite.

Rhinestone Cowboy was one of my first favorites too. Probably helped that the Calgary Cowboys used it as the melody to the song to which they would skate out, "Like a Calgary Cowboy".

RIP Glen. A fantastic collection of hits, including the ones mentioned and Galveston, Southern Nights.

^ That was also my introduction to the song - I loved how the Cowboys skated out to that song. Ghost on the Canvas is a haunting album - just beautiful

I have these totally guilty pleasure artists that I will sometimes listen to when I need something different, or I need to change my mood.

Glenn Campbell definitely one of them. John Denver, go for a long drive in the mountains and listen to Annie's song. Johnny Cash, a huge one for me, and not just the super hits, or songs like Hurt, but if you need a laugh, a boy named Sue is brilliant.

Alabama, and Books and Dunn, just a 90 degree change in direction from the usual music that I listen to.

Glen Campbell was an unbelievable talent.

Like a few others have mentioned, Rhinestone Cowboy was my very first favourite song, going as far back into my memory bank as I can. I remember probably being around 3 or 4 sitting in Sunday school one morning and the teacher asked the kids which song we wanted to sing. I immediately blurted out Rhinestone Cowboy and for the life of me couldn't figure out why everyone seemed to find that so funny. Hearing that song immediately transports me back to my earliest days, and often chokes me up. Likely more-so now.

Really an underrated voice. Wichita Lineman is one of the best classic country songs for sure. RIP

And countless more that he collaborated on. He was a part of the Wrecking Crew, who played on so many classic records in the 60s. Playing guitar on Pet Sounds makes him a legend in my mind even before you consider his solo music.

For me it's hard to classify him as country. I looked at his music as more folk oriented but I guess the thing is that he crossed all categories.

In 1968 he sold more records in the US than the Beatles. The Wrecking Crew stuff is amazing. One of the best session guitar players of all time.
