I don't any reason to bring Roy back as he has been pretty average at best in the ECHL.

Gillies has been up and down and still has a lot of questions about him.

DraftSite (Bill Placzek):
Quote:
Big lanky net minder who is good handling the puck and has shown good leg/pad quickness. lots of tools already there for a team to help develop. Part of his progression has been slowed by him having to play behind veteran goaler, Jacob Brennan. calm and controlled and in good position with regularity.
Hockey's Future:
Quote:
A battler between the pipes, McDonald never gives up on the puck and makes the most of his size and athleticism. Though he has frequently found himself peppered with shots, the netminder is unflappable under pressure. Pairing a big frame with great mobility in the crease gives McDonald the foundation to be a special prospect.

Roy is probably not going to get qualified. He's pretty much terrible.

Gillies is still at least a year away from going pro, hopefully by then Ortio is already an NHLer and then coming up behind Gillies could be MacDonald.

Well between the Oilers picking Draisitl and the Flames picking Bennett. Now the Flames picking MacDonald and the Canucks picking Demko, it will be interesting to see who made the right choice in a couple years.

I dont think MacDonald is a bad pick at all. I trust the Flames drafting of late.

Between him and Gillies, that's some big beefy goalies. I wanted Demko with this pick, despite all my talk of no goalies inside the first two rounds, so we'll see how this pans out. Flames brass obviously had him as their #1 goalie in the draft.

I know nothing about this guy except he isn't Finnish. Non-Finnish goalies are inferior to Finnish goalies.

Probably because history shows that when it comes to goalies, it's a total crapshoot. For a high 2nd rounder, where you could still get some "1st round" type of guys, you shouldn't try to guess the magic unicorn of hockey.

Not that I like drafting goalies this high, but it's not a shot against gillies or Ortio to pick one.

Does Mason have a chance to be one of the goalies for Team Canada at the WJC this year?

Well considering how the rest of the goalies are being selected after we picked him, it may have proven wise. But I am surprised McDonald was the goalie we decided was best of the bunch. Isn't he like 6'4 or something? Return of Godzilla?

Exactly.

Im fine with the pick. He was obviously the Flames highest rated goalie and judging by the run of goalies he wouldn't of been around with our other 2nd round pick.

Red Line Report had him as the top goalie in the draft. They had Demko 3rd or 4th IIRC.

So we've drafted the top forward and top goalie in the draft according to RLR.

I'm disappointed that Vancouver took Demko. I trust McDonald is going to exceed these current expectations.

4 goalies in the first 10 picks of round two

Gotta think the Flames were aware of this and made this pick at 34 because they didn't feel he would be there at 54

Jacobs gone. Glover, Thomas, Dougherty McKeown are the ones to watch now getting closer to the 54 pick.
