Man it's funny how some people had such bad things to say about him when he signed here. Overexceeded everyones expectations last year and signs a team friendly deal allowing for some more cap room. Love this guy

I would guess that Bouma is buried before he's bought out. Given the Bollig treatment, so to speak.

that would almost cover the cap hit of Versteegs new contract. Flames would save $1,533,333 this season, but be hit with a $766,667 penalty next season. I think from a pure financial standpoint, it makes a lot of sense to buy him out.

nicely done!
to be honest, i would have been ok with 2 years at 1.75 per...
but this is even better as it gives a ton of flexibility...
great signing, really happy about it

2017-2018 cap hit $666,667
2018-2019 cap hit $766,667
gives the flames more room to wiggle there snack... but that cap hit.. sign of the devil.. maybe not apprirpriate to do so.. regardless.. better then 2.2/m for this eyar

Buyout is 766,667 over 2 years.
Frees up about 1.5 for this year.
Flames would need that for?

These are the kind of deals that actually make you win. You sign your big stars to big money deals, of course. But it's the value contracts you surround them with that will win you games and championships.

I have no memory of this happening. From what I recall the vast majority of posters were happy to have a NHL-ready player on a min. contract for free.

A potential pending move that would require the savings this year, and the belief that Bouma might actually be able to get another NHL job if bought out versus Bollig's ability to do the same may be just a couple of reasons as to why they might handle this situation differently.

1 year? Perfect.
Dollar amount is nice too. You could tell he wanted to come back. Another nice job by Treliving.

You would only save ~570k and tack on another year. Not worth it.
Buyout cap hit - ~730k
AHL cap hit - ~1.3M

yeah, from what I remember people were pretty happy with the signing, but hated the Grossmann signing. Which was justified, as we all know.

Do you believe that Bouma is in any way capable of living up to his contract value? It is not his fault that he is not that good.

Random thought: Bouma for Eddie Lack straight up... who says no?
Calgary gets a back-up Gulutzan is familiar with, Carolina gets a skater for a goalie they're obviously disenchanted with.

To win, you need your guys to overproduce their contracts. Last year, Versteeg did that easily, scoring 37 points for $950,000, or $25,675 per point. This year, for $1,750,000, if he scores around 40 points, that'll be great value once again and Treliving should feel safe bringing him back for another year.

With Lazar, potentially janko and now Foo in the mix, buying out bouma makes sense if only for the roster spot it frees up.
