I think he is a solid 3rd pairing guy that can also play on the PP.

I’m seeing a completely one dimensional player in Danil so far. I’d love to be wrong though!
Maybe you don't remember, but the majority of posters couldn't see past the 5-6 call, until he was better than that.

Same thing was true for Brodie: a #6, until he proved he wasn't a #6.

And I never said Miromanov is like Giordano. I simply said fans expect the future to look like the present. If anything though, Miromanov has more tools than Giordano - doesn't mean he'll develop as far (in fact, very unlikely, as Gio was a Norris winner), but the tools are there.

Oh yeah I get it, but Daniil doesn’t give me the same vibes as Gio or Brodie (another guy I was bullish on).

But Huska is supposed to be good at developing defenders, so maybe an off season to rest up, and then a proper camp to learn the system is just what Daniil needs. I hope so!

We really picked up a grab bag of defender prospects this year. I hope at least one of them turn out to be a top 4!

Also wish Danill would have unleashed his shot more often. I felt that limited him on PP - always looking for a perfect pass versus blasting it quickly every once in a while.

This is the key.

Miromanov (26)
Pachal (24)
Okhotiuk (23)
Jurmo (22)
Grushnikov (21)
Brzustewicz (19)

Six new chances for someone to develop into a great player.

Miromanov had an offensive zone start % of just 36.73 which ranks last among all defensemen on this roster. That's not being sheltered.

Not sure you are sheltering a player by playing him with Weegar and all the tough match ups and less offensive zone starts.

It's a super small sample size, and I have no idea what the player is or will be, but he wasn't sheltered.

He literally took Hanifin's spot in the top four.

Miro has already outpaced and outperformed some of the “expectations” around here. If people want to be that he’s going to go backwards instead of forwards, sure, but it isn’t backed by anything.

Lol, tell me you didn't actually look into any data without telling me you didn't actually look into the data.

5v5 he had the most defensive zone starts for any defenseman on the team, and less offensive zone starts than Weegar.

SSS for sure, but, that ain't being sheltered.

Averaged 3 seconds a game shorthanded.

Flames spent a lot of their time in the defensive zone 5v5 in the last 20 games. So a guy averaging 21 minutes a game spending his time there means little. Getting hemmed in your own zone certainly doesn't suggest that you are getting it done defensively.

He starts in the zone. That means that after the coach saw another pair get hemmed in he tapped Miro to go on the ice. Starting does not mean getting hemmed in the zone.

On the contrary, he started in his zone but they still outshot and outchanced their opponents when he was on the ice. He did well. I can understand people saying the sample size is too small but I'm genuinely baffled that people think he played poorly. And if he did play poorly why doesn't it show in any of the numbers?

You clearly don't understand what any of these stats mean. Haha

Can you point to me where I said he played poorly? I said he got relatively sheltered minutes, similar to Kylington. If anything, I've said he exceeded my expectations.

Ok, bro.

Erik Karlsson had 44.8% defensive zone starts, is he amazeballs defensively, too?

DZS% is almost meaningless here. But hang your hat on it if you must.

Except you've been shown all over the place where he did not get sheltered minutes.

Nobody is using DZS% as a measure of how good a player is defensively.

But if you get the majority of your starts in the defensive zone, it shows that your coach is not sheltering you from defensive responsibilities. That dog won't hunt.

Who's hanging a hat on DZS%? It's literally where they start their shift, offensive or defensive zones. You clearly don't understand these stats.

If your team is spending a majority of its time in the defensive zone (which the Flames were late in the season) and you have a defenceman seeing 21 minutes a night, you're going to see a inflated DZS% as that 21 minute defenceman needs to get those minutes somehow. It sure wasn't playing shorthanded, where Miromanov saw no ice time. A defenceman sitting on the bench when the team is shorthanded, as far as I am concerned, is being sheltered. Or isn't trusted enough by their coach to kill penalties.
