Simmonds would be the perfect player for Johnny and Monny. If BT could pull some Wizardy and make that happen, Flames would get bigger, meaner, and increase offensive production.
What would the cost be with the Flames not having any draft picks involved?
This one is from yesterday but an interesting thought:

Wonder if acquisition of Panarin is, in any way, a sweetener for Ilya Kovalchuk, who's been discussed by #CBJ. The two were teammates in KHL

If I'm a GM courting a college or KHL free agent and I'm competing with the Blackhawks I'd be damn sure to point to Artemi Panarin as a reason to sign with me. "Look what they did to Panarin, used him for two years and traded him as soon as he earned a pay raise."

If I'm a college or Euro up and comer I'm looking at what Kane did to help get Panarin that deal and thinking who cares if they trade me once I get $6mil+ with term.
Move on with the payday and become the key cog on a team you aren't overshadowed on.

Really eh? Just about the money? I thought that winning a cup probably factored into Panarin's decision. If it was just a payday he was looking for then I guess things worked out. No cup though - I guess it's always possible but not likely in Columbus.

Probably about the money, although being a champion is the pinnacle. Short career in hockey is a reality with lots of years to live when he is done.
