Post The 2017 Calgarypuck Hockey League Awards | BALLOT NOW LIVE

I'mUPDATE

Go ahead and fill it out. Don't vote for your own players. You can write-in players by clicking "Other..." and typing in their names. Happy voting!

---------------------------------

Hey everybody! I'm Mike, aka 'TheScorpion', the General Manager of the New York Islanders, and I'm incredibly happy to be bringing back one of the CPHL's most time-honoured traditions: the Calgarypuck Hockey League Awards. This has been done with both the blessings of Hurricanes GM Hanna Sniper, who previously handled this thread, and Wild GM and commissioner JiriHrdina.

There will be nine different awards handed out this year. Here's a brief rundown of each award.

The Cliff Fletcher Award: presented to the league's best General Manager in 2016-17.

The Doug Risebrough Award: presented to the General Manager determined to have made the worst trade(s) over the course of the 2016-17 season.

The D'Arcy McGrath Award: presented to the General Manager adjudged to be the best message board poster.

The Darryl Sutter Award: presented to the league's best rookie General Manager.

The Lanny McDonald Award: presented to the player deemed to be the Calgarypuck Hockey League's MVP.

The Sergei Pryakhin Award: presented to the player determined to be the Calgarypuck Hockey League's most underrated player.

The Roman Turek Award: presented to the player who is the most egregiously overpaid relative to his contributions.

The Gary Suter Award: presented to the Calgarypuck Hockey League's best defenseman.

The Mike Vernon Award: presented to the Calgarypuck Hockey League's best goaltender.

BALLOTING (PLEASE READ):

Ok, here's how this is going to work. All 28 GMs need to send me a ballot with their Top-3 picks for each of the above awards by Sunday, June 11th. That's eight days from now. For each award, I'm going to need ballots looking like this.

Suter Award

1. Dennis Wideman
2. Dan Girardi
3. Martin Marincin

That's just an example, but you get the idea. 1st-place votes are worth 10 points, 2nd-place votes are worth 7 points, 3rd-place votes are worth 5 points, 4th-place votes are worth 3 points, and 5th-place votes are worth 1 point.

The ballots will be created by a Google Form, which will be up by 10:00 AM today.

Once again, I want as many ballots as possible by next Sunday. That's eight days, so even if you're busy on seven of those days you can still find some time. Don't spend hours figuring this out, it's supposed to be fun!!

Happy offseason!

I like the initiative but the process is time consuming. Why don't we just use surveymonkey to get votes that will populate results for you? Use the top 5 in each category in player stats and then write in the rest?

OK, I'll look into a surveymonkey type thing and I'll get back to you soon. Good idea, MJK.

Scorp, can we maybe do nominations like the NHL does? I don't know who first year GM's are other than you and I, and shortlisting some guys for some awards would be nice as it's hard to look for expensive bad players. 3-5 nominated per award, and maybe a kick to our ego's ex: "yeah i didn't win an award, but im a david jones award candidate"

if you need help i can help as it could take a lot of work

OK. I'll do shortlisting for the jones award, the treliving award, and the backlund award. I'll determine those candidates when I post the Google Form later. I think I'll be ok for help, though... but thanks!

Just a change... pick your top-3, not top-5. There will only be options for top-3 in the Google Form.

1st-place is worth 5 points
2nd-place is worth 3 points
3rd-place is worth 1 point

What do you mean? You'll just be filling out a form, it will take like 10 minutes

I prefer the old award names.. The NHL doesn't change theirs. This shouldn't be an arbitrary decision.

I disagree. The awards were dead, now brought back to life, let's change it up a little.

PS You're old.

I'd be happy to change the names back if there's a big enough push to but I figured that some of the names were a little antiquated... besides didn't the league just change the name of the Pearson anyway? It's not like they never do it

It's not like I picked names out of a hat or anything... anyone else have an opinion?

I like the award names except I think the David Jones award should either be the Dennis Wideman award or the Troy Brouwer award.

Maybe swap Vernon with Kipper too.

All three guys were/are overpaid, I just went with the name that stuck in my head.

As for Vernon/Kipper, well... that's a debate that I didn't really want to get into.

Fair enough. As for Brouwer/Wideman they seem to be more of a topic of discussion than Jones was, but it's just a name so we can stick with that.
