Really thought Greene would go UFA. Curious to see the $$$. I like Greene but he is the type of player that can get old overnight towards the end of his career

Smart for Greene to resign with LA.

Smart if you want to win more cups, not so smart if you want to maximize your dollars.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
A few days of detail work left on Matt Greene's new contract with the LA Kings. Expected: 4 years, $10 mil...annual average of $2.5 mil.

Ya that is the right price for that term and player, good signing for the Kings. I would take that deal all day long.

That's a pretty good price point. In a world with a 75 million dollar upper limit, a 2.5 million dollar a year veteran defenceman is something you can swallow. Which is what the situation with Greene would be at the end of this deal. That Greene and Stoll trade for Visnovski really worked out for the Oilers. We all know the drill Edmonton really is no good.

Scott Hannan went from being a #1/2 at age 28 signing a 4 year 18M deal as a 28 year old to catching on with Flames as a 1M / year as a 32 year old..... and signing 2 1 year 1M deals since

Dangerous age for strong slow D-men.

Wonder if UFAs Sarich (age 35) and Hannan (age 35) get signed by anyone this year.

If Greene is unwanted as a 35 year old it becomes a 3 year deal for 3.33 m /year.

I was thinking it was a pretty good chunk of change for a 31 year old 6/7 defenseman, but I guess with the cap projected to continue it's climb it's not too bad.

Didn't see it posted, but the Kings bought this contract out yesterday.
