Icon31 Kings re-sign Matt Greene to 4 year deal, $2.5Mil AAV

Likely means Willie Mitchell will be an UFA

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Looks like Matt Greene is staying in LA. Work finishing up on a 4 year deal.

Type of D man who you never hear his name because he is doing all the little things right. Between him and Mitchell this was the obvious choice..

Depends on the amount that he is signing for with LA...I feel we could have at least overpaid for the guy.

Hard to go from a couple cup rings to a lottery team, I'd imagine, regardless of salary.

I think he would've been very in demand if he hit UFA status, be interesting to see how much cash he'll get. Tough to leave a team like LA unless they're horribly low-balling you, no surprise he's staying.

I thought he got exposed for being a little slow in the playoffs at times. 4 years is too long for my tastes as I wouldn't want to commit more than 2 years.

I thought the Markov one was going to be the worst signing today.

I WAS WRONG.

Greene is 31.
I expect it will be for similar money to last contract.
I can't see how this is a bad signing.

he's a slow, 5-6th dman, who brings nothing to the table besides a passing to fair ability in the Dzone.

Signing that for four years is a pretty terrible decision.

Surprised to see him re-sign in Los Angeles after being a heatlhy scratch this season. Didn't think they would do that with being so close to the cap ceiling. I thought he would be a target for the Flames in the off-season.

I agree. You don't sign an older 5/6/7 defenceman who cycles in and out of your lineup to a 4 year deal. I'm glad he's signed so we don't go after him. Money better spent elsewhere!

Too bad.

Looking at the UFA list for this year I though Paul Stastny and Greene were the guys that would be worth chasing. There's not a lot else out there that would eb worth sitting one of our young guys for.

They'd fill gaps on our roster. First line center and punishing defenseman.
