Steinberg tweeted that neither ken king or feaster are in penticton, so that begs the question who will announce burkes hire? conny? or will burke go up to the podium and announce himself? "i have become hockey ops"
maybe a formality if KK and feaster are just waiting in the wings with burke but whatever

That would be hilarious. And the most Brian Burke thing he could do.

huh?
Feaster and King are in Calgary. The announcement is happening in Calgary.
...why would Conny, who is in Penticton, announce this?

I'm much more excited for the future with Burke here, not just because he brings a good track record of rebuilding, respected, etc. But also for some of the things he'll say or do, not to mention I'm praying for some Lowe-Burke showdowns.

He has his good and bad qualities. If he helps bring a Cup, I will kiss his ring.

Burke will be head of hockey operations. Feaster will be kicked upstairs in some other executive role outside hockey operations. King kept on as President of the Flames sports group, or whatever they're calling it.
Burke's hiring isn't a loss of confidence in Feaster, who was never meant to be anything more than the janitor to clean up Sutter's mess. That job is done - the patient has stabilized - so now it's time to bring in the builder.
I'm not sold on Burke (would have much preferred Jim Nill). He strikes me as impatient, and has a Sutteresque trait of stubbornly over-rating 'his' guys. But I don't hate the hiring either. It sure won't be a dull rebuild.

Can't say I am thrilled to be bringing on a megalomaniac attention whore. And yes, if Burke is hired as president, Feaster's days are numbered. There's no way Burke's fingers won't be all over the pie.

It would make little sense having Burke as head of Hockey Ops and Feaster still in the GM role. Something more substantial must be coming. President and GM?

I'm excited about this. He's a straight shooter and a pure hockey man. Something this organization sorely lacks. This should be an incredibly interesting experience.
Oh yeah, I'm 6'0", 185 lbs with an amazing jugular.

Or maybe hes will just be heading the scouting department.
Hartley's days are probably numbered as well.

Never been a huge Burke fan but that is mostly due to his ego and style. He will probably have success but still not the biggest fan.
Personally I would have much rather had John Davidson.

Seems I will be in the minority here but i hate the idea of Burke having any control over this team or the direction of the team as far as player personel goes.
I think there will be a lot of people here who are going to get real upset real quick when he starts trading away prospects for players rather than letting them develop. We have been calling for a rebuild for a long time and now that it is finally here, and we have a growing cupboard of prospects that we can start to get a little excited about, we are going to give the reigns to a man with no patience in team building. Looks like a quick fix to avoid a real rebuild by the ownership to me.
The guy is a dinosaur from a pre cap era and we don't need him imo. Let the current management keep us moving forward, they have done a good job this summer (bring on the list of we hate Feaster because posts....) and we should let that continue.
I guess I will get trod on because this goes against the masses

Awesome news now that it's actually happening. Was more wishfull thinking when we started kicking around the idea many months ago. Best Flames news in a long time imo.
Makes the future that much more clearer and defined ad opposed to a guy feeling around in the dark about most things in Feaster, a gm not really suited to rebuild.
And, the fact that this sets the hockey ops hierarchy, and removes all doubt who makes the decisions there.

Brining Burke in as GM would be a backards step for the organization as a whole. Feels no different to them trying to land those overpayed free-agents as a "quick fix".
The Flames need to continue to build up a solid hockey ops dept and culture. Burke can help with that from a director position but not as GM.

We need to get rid of the Mr. Nice guy image, and start going back to the hard ass image that Darryl tried to put in. That is when we had the most success. We need a guy that doesn't cater to Edwards and King, a guy that tells it like it is.
Feaster is has done a good job so far, but he always seems like a yes man.
This team is a lacked a identity ever since Darryl Sutter went into a crisis mode. We are slowly starting to get one back, and I think Burke puts a stamp on this team like Darryl did off the get go.
