Potential top 10 pick Pavel Zacha has officially committed to the Sarnia Sting.
This after his agent blasted the Sting organization for taking Zacha 1st overall in the import draft for what his agent said that it was clearly communicated that Zacha had no interest in coming to North America.
If McDavid landed with the Flames, would people be open to trading Monahan for a top top end Defenseman prospect, or young established defenseman?
If its for Seth Jones, Victor Hedman, or Aaron Ekblad...them yes...but I can't think of too many others...Hanifin, I guess.
I don't think I'd move him for Dougie Hamilton or any of the young NYI D...and CGY isn't going to get Subban or Karlsson for him, I don't think.

The Following User Says Thank You to PlayfulGenius For This Useful Post:
Pittsburgh won a Cup with Crosby, Malkin and Staal down the middle despite perceived shortcomings on the wings and on D.
So no you don't. Colorado didn't trade O'Reilly or Duchene when they drafted MacKinnon - you shift someone to the wing and enjoy the spoils.
Pittsburgh also hasn't really improved their blueline since and hasn't won a cup for about 5 years now. And I'd argue that the defense on every Stanley Cup winning team after Pittsburgh is pretty rock solid.
Liking the feedback. Definitely do think the the Flames are vastly week in D prospects. Specifically top D prospects. I think it's going to require an overpayment at some point in order to get one.

I think most of the time, if you can flip a good forward for a good defensemen you should do it.
I'd prefer if they found a way to draft their top end defenseman, if that's not possible then I'd rather put together a package for a top 2 defenseman. I think Monahan is more important to this team than most prospects will be; he's not only our best young player but he also is the first player in our rebuild to make a difference. He should be here for a long time and I could see him being a captain in the future.

To me it seems to be that trades are getting harder to make. Getting good value is also hard when dealing from a position of weakness (lack of defence prospects). For these reasons drafting for need should get more of a priority.
