People tend to do weird things when incidents like this happen.
After Air France Flight 358 overran the runway in Toronto and caught fire, some of the evacuated people eventually made their way to the baggage carousel to wait for their bags.
Also the above incident is exactly the reason why it isn't exactly wise to show up to the Calgary Airport in -30 weather in your shorts and flipflops just because you are going to Mexico.
I doubt anyone could even answer this but why don't the Flames have their own paint job, or even logo on their charter flight? Obviously it's not owned by the Flames but wouldn't it make sense for Air Canada too?
Most likely because Air Canada needs to maximize the aircrafts usage. They can't just have it sitting while the Flames are on a home stand. The same aircraft likely flies other teams around as well.
You would have the Ottawa Senators flying around in an airplane with a Calgary Flames logo.
In addition to being rotated, they are also flown in all business config on revenue flights. Just a matter of getting a deal done if the parties so wish... Air Canada had a Toronto Raptors plane at one point. These planes I'm about to show you are regular jets carrying passengers and US Airways doesn't even carry either team:
And they have a Panthers plane. US Air has big operations in Phoenix, Philly, and Charlotte, as you may have guessed.

I just want more cool paint jobs is all...
The Flames Jetz planes do come with sweet headrest sheets/covers with Flames logos though!
What most people don't understand is that the carry on they're trying to save could get caught on an arm rest, or fall to the ground and trip someone, and impede the escape of other people.
People don't understand that? Or they just don't care and want to make sure they have "their stuff". The Asiana accident in San Fran had a bunch of people running away from the plane holding their carry on luggage and it was mind boggling to me. I think people are actually just that selfish.

I want to think they don't understand, and would care, but know you're very right and people are indeed that selfish.
You know, in fairness to the selfish people and their carry in......people do wierd things in moments of stress. I don't think it is about being selfish, or even much conscious thought about having their stuff....it's just that their mind is so saturated by stress, they are trying for self preservation, and somehow leaving with what they got on with seems like it is part of that.
I remember a story about a guy who ran out of gas while flying, crashed into a lake in Northern Ontario, and was swimming for his life from the sinking wreckage, all the while holding his David Clark headset out of the water with one hand!
I'm sure even he would've felt like it was pretty ridiculous in hindsight.
Thought processes change when people are panicking... a lot of times, common sense goes out the window. So it's really not surprising that some people would go grab their stuff before they get out of the plane.
