Spoiler!
To be fair, those go a lot slower and can stop pretty quickly too. I saw them having to stop or sound their horn at people on the regular.

CBC had a CT fellow on this morning. Since the LRT opened in 1981 there have been 74 deaths at or near stations (so about 2 per year on average). 66 of those were pedestrians and about 2/3 were accidental (the other third were intentional) which puts the number of pedestrians struck and killed by trains at about 44 over 36 years if I understand the article correctly. Just to put the numbers in some perspective.

Yeah, I think it's a case of everyone thinks their city is full of a higher number of idiots because they're imbedded in the local news. Two people a year really isn't that much for a city of 1.4 million people, and I'm sure it's similar or higher in most cities.

All they needed was a blue and white crown vic cruiser to have responded and this could have been a scene from the 90's.

NB train stopped on the bridge over the Bow River. Looks like a car hit the train on 4th ave at 9th street. Minor damage so it looks like it will be cleaned up soon.

*** UPDATE ***
Trains are moving again.

Based on the picture in that article, looks like it was the Northbound train at this intersection:

https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Whi...4d-113.9820243

I always cringe when I hear people getting hit in the NE as there are a few places where one train can pass and you could start crossing thinking its all clear, but there is another train coming the other direction at the same time that is mostly blocked by the one that just went by (ie NB train clears intersection, but is blocking view of a SB train not quite at the intersection yet). It doesn't appear to be the case here. Wonder if we'll hear any more about it.

I think its time that we just declare C-Trains a Public Menace.

Sharpen your pitchforks everyone, its time to organize a Mob!

Yep. Career protestors can dust off their signs and gather around city hall to denounce the LRT for all these senseless deaths.

THere has been several pedestrian vs train collisions over the years at this exact location. The only reasonable cause of these is pedestrian inattention. The two directions of track are separated there, with the station area in between. You Physically have to walk towards an incoming train before you can cross a track in any direction, so unless the pedestrian isn't ever looking up (to see the lights or the train itself) AND can't hear the bells, there shouldn't be a problem. However, pedestrians appear to not pay attention, apparently. I've said it before, place some flashing lights in the ground right beside the tracks, so that the pedestrians with their heads down at least see something.

The car is eviscerated, and the bus is all "LOL, you hurt my bumper."

I saw this article, and this must be related to the train vs pedestrian incident at Whitehirn Station. This bus is heading Northbound at 44th ave, so it must be a shuttle bus for the LRT line that was out of service. In any normal operations, there isn't a bus that continues northbound at that intersection.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...horn-1.4117113

Insp. Ken Thrower says the 60-year-old woman was seen on CCTV footage walking south along the platform toward the level crossing.

A southbound train went by and the woman walked east across the northbound tracks.

"She appeared to be distracted or preoccupied, not too sure," said Thrower. "She glances down at her cellphone, she almost walked out in front of the traffic on 36th Street, going northbound."

Thrower said the woman then turned around and went back across the northbound track as a train approached.

The lights were flashing warning of the approaching train, but the woman, who Thrower said appeared to be looking the wrong way, stepped in front of it and was hit.

It happened shortly after the accident at the station. We got caught up in that on our way home this afternoon, didn't realize it was still closed off. The car and bus were long gone but they were replacing the cement block, standard and the traffic lights. Took a good 45 minutes to go up 44th to 52nd, which was the detour.

What an awful day for a lot of people. The train driver, the woman who was killed, the bus driver and the driver of the car. The news said both the bus driver and the driver of the car are in hospital, in good condition. Feel just awful for the lady who died and her family. I hope the train driver utilizes the post-accident counselling.
