In that one, there is also corruption going up the chain, clearly.

This rich old fool literally bought his way onto the police force. I wonder (no I don't, really) if they are going to do anything about that.

Ugh. I didn't watch the video, but god damn.

I did watch the video.
Pretty easy case to dismiss. I feel bad for the police in this one.

Raising hell in Baltimore right now. Live riot coverage on CNN. Flying bottles, tear gas, riot gear, armored trucks...

Today the funeral was held for Freddie Gray, a 25 year old black man that went into police custody alive with a working spine and came out dead, with a severed spine.

It's been going on for a couple of days but really has gone off the rails today. The live coverage of the CVS looting iis just unbelievable this will get worse as darkness sets in.

It's a legitimate riot. That word has been thrown around a lot lately, but as of today it's a legit war against the police right now.

White Sox - Orioles game officially postponed. This is quite a bit worse than Ferguson at this point.

Getting dark in Baltimore in about an hour. This might be the "big one"

It's really unbelievable that people think the appropriate way to show their displeasure with a situation is to commit more crimes, further alienate the police that they want to see have more oversight and basically reinforce every negative stereotype you can think of. People are angry that the police "unfairly" target them because of race, but at the very next chance, they give the police every reason to do this.

All that rioting will do is force a justifiably strong police response, which in turn will lead to more pissed off people who think that the reason the police cracked down is their skin color and not the fact they were running around carrying out criminal actions and assaulting people. Whatever legacy this guy has is now these riots and not anything positive.

It is also very hard to take things like #blacklivesmatter and the supposed desire to improve relations seriously since there are never riots when it's gang violence, black on black violence, black on white violence, black cops shooting white people. Only when it is white cops on black person is it an issue, and the actions of the supposedly innocent victim are never addressed.

Nobody got shot. That guy died due to a broken spinal cord. How that happened, or why he was arrested, is a mystery. They haven't explained it.

Some people are going to be pissed off, obviously.

But yeah, we can wave our hands and shake our heads at these goddamn criminals running wild in the streets, and then it's really easy to forget the crime that precipitated this whole thing.

Seems to be a norm now that whenever a police did something to a black person a riot and looting happens. It doesn't matter if the police did it on purpose or not. Can people just protest peacefully? I am sure some of these people are just pretending they care about what happened, they are just taking advantage of the situation. They loot, vandalized cars, properties and stuff. The others who are there to protest peacefully are getting hurt as well. At the same time you have a black reverend/pastors that stirs trouble and always claiming black people are being targetted for no reason instead of asking the public to keep the peace. I have no idea what really happenned to Ferguson, Florida and now Baltimore but this is getting ridiculous. Why loot, burn a property (CVS), throw bricks and stuff. It seems like everyone just want to resort things to violence?

Ridiculous..putting a hole on the firefighter's hose fighting the building fire on CVS Pharmacy, people looting the Cash Checking place... what is that got to do with protesting for the 25 yeard old black guy death while being detained by police??

Do you guys see this as a new thing? Rodney King was almost 25 years ago. Jim Crow laws, about 50 years ago. And then there is everything in between where no one had a hand held, fit in your pocket video camera. I think the only logical solution left is to riot.

A quick wiki of the LA riots...

Quote:
After the riots subsided, there were significant consequences in the Los Angeles Police Department and city government: an increase in hiring of minority officers, analysis of excessive force, resignation of the police chief, loss of support for the Mayor of Los Angeles, and analysis of the general political and economic atmosphere that contributed to the riots

State of emergency declared in Maryland...National Guard will be rolling in any time now.

This will make things better.

There is widespread looting (or stealing as its called on non-riot days), the protestors have attacked police with bricks and bottles (though no gun shots as of yet) sending at least 7 officers to hospital....and darkness about 30 minutes away.

Nothing good can come from all this on either side.

I don't think most rioters even care about the wrongful death of a young man. I would wager its just a reason to throw something at the cops and rob stores amidst a mass of humanity, and try and remain anonymous throughout.

Don't most people see that it's not about the random black folks hurt. This is simply a bunch of people who see an opportunity to get free ####. Sure it'll cost them in the end through higher taxes to make up for the damaged property, but they probably don't pay those taxes anyway, again just happy at their free ####.

On a side note, there are obvious racial tensions in the States, but supposed black leaders like Sharpton and the like, are just as shameful as these dirty cops.

"Violence is not the answer" is kind of an interesting line of thought for a country whose second amendment is the "Right to Bear Arms," in order to protect oneself against a tyrannical government.

Given how tyrannical the police have appeared lately, doesn't violence seem like a pretty logical step, for a country with a heavy obsession with firearms and violence?

they murdered a guy that was standing in his own doorway with a screw driver and you feel bad for the cops?

when the door was opened, the woman calmly walked out and the man was calmly standing there. they start shouting at him and then shoot him. the cops escalated the situation and then used deadly force.

yet another incident that is just sickening.

america and their obsession with guns is past the boiling point.

Especially considering the growing divide between poverty and everyone else
