Absolutely this.

Nobody knew it was there and the Rent must have been astronomical.

It was a used sporting goods store for a while, but they moved out last year.

IIRC there are plans to convert the barn into residential units along with an additional building.

Adesso Man in Marda Loop is closing down a year after opening, citing construction and traffic issues. I went in a bunch of times and they just didn't have anything that interested me. I'll drive out of my way to go to Stuff on 11th instead.

Other businesses in the same building are thriving so I'm not sure how much better they would have done were there no construction in the area.

I bought some stuff from Adesso a few times, but its not something that i will go out of my way for. They have a shop in the farmers market and ill pick up some socks etc.

Stuff on the other hand, i will check out every couple weeks. Always cool and new stuff in there.

That's the white barn over on 14 Street SE: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JBaxeHB2HG3KoFQ26

That one is in worse shape and more neglected than the red one where The Livery Shop was, so I am pleased that it can live on in some form.

This thread is great for keeping me up-to-date on the closings of places I've never heard of.

I don't write that just to be snarky: I really had never even heard of "The Livery Shop", "Adesso", etc. I don't mean that to be an indictment of those businesses, just a general commentary that surely I'm not the only one whose reaction to the news they're closing is a resounding, "... Huh?"

I mean, in general places that everyone knows about/uses are probably less likely to close.

No idea what Addesso was but sounds like a place peter12 would shop.

There is an engineering firm that has office space above the Nash in the National Hotel. I believe they took the barn as expansion space.

A fire at a heritage building in Calgary’s Ogden neighbourhood is under investigation.

The fire happened overnight at the 110-year-old Ogden Block at 72nd Avenue and Ogden Road Southeast.
https://globalnews.ca/news/10461955/...building-fire/

This place has been a point of contention between the City and Ogden residents for quite some time now.

Kit Interiors on 11th Ave is moving - literally a stones throw away to the building on the corner.

However, there is a moving sale! (although, I doubt there will be a deal on the Eames Chairs)

Calling literally a square box made with bricks a "heritage site"? Better get UNESCO to come certify it...

1914 buildings are few and far between in this city. Particularly in Ogden, which was once a pretty vibrant historical neighbourhood.

the arguments have been that the building could be restored and used in the green line expansion project as well as a hub for the community.

But sure, it's just a box. might as well tear it down and build something similar to whats across the street from it currently

Hey! Thats my office you're talking about!

Look, I'm no fan of the 'Ogden Block' despite being fully aware of it's historical significance. I just dont know what they can do with it.

Maybe hollow it out somehow and make it the entrance to the train station?

At the moment its a crack den.
