per Friedman, the Islanders really wanted a prospect from the Flames that Treliving wasn't willing to give up so they settled for all picks
See, I was wondering about this.
I was really surprised that the Flames got Hamonic without giving up one of their D prospects, or at least a prospect in general. I wondered if it was because Snow didn't ask for or want one of them, or because Tre refused to part with one.
yeah no doubt they wanted Fox. Really glad that Tre managed to get Hamonic without having to give him up ... personally I value Fox much higher than a 2019 2nd rounder or so.
I think it was Conroy who said in an interview last year that teams were trying to slip fox into any trade discussions in a similar manner to when they tried it with Johnny. I think he's very highly rated within the scouting circles. Great pick.
Do we think the plan is to sign him to an ELC end of this year? I don't think I can deal with another Johnny/janko situation.

Will be interesting how Hamonic works out. I was high on him till a bunch of people here convinced me otherwise. Maybe he can bounce back.
Given the look off the Oilers's blue line, I am surprised you would sour on a defenseman that is better than everyone in Edmonton beyond the top pairing.

I would value him more than a second for sure. 2 seconds? or a 1st? Not as sure. Wonder what others think, would you prefer the deal to have been 2018 first plus Fox?

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Going from being high on a guy to not as high on a guy isn't all that bad of a thing. Essentially going from eagerly paying the price for him to thinking about it. He did have a bad year last year with worse numbers than Russell. I would still take him, but would have to think about paying the price though.

Serious question.
What qualities does Larsson possess that make him a better D than Hamonic?
I am aware there is a 2 year age difference and most hockey people would acquiesce that last season was an outlier for Hamonic

He had 3 separate inuries last season. No wonder his performance was affected.
He's had multiple MCL injuries. That's a concern going forward.
It is, but at the same time because of the strength of the Flames blueline he'll have an easier time of it err shift wise, it mean that we will get concentrated Hamonic instead of watered down Hamonic.
the only time that he should be playing that high minutes level is if there's an injury on the top pairing.
I think it will help his GP count this year.

At their best, they're pretty equivalent except for Larsson's age. So we have the question of bounce back by Hamonic. The one thing that Hamonic does have is a bit more of a physical edge and mean streak.
