1. Free parking kicks ass
2. The first few seats on the grand stand have awful visibility near the polls. It's better the higher up you go
3. The ring road kicks ass!
4. That lanky number 9 plays with heart!

Didn't think Cavalry played all that well but they got the win and a big date against Whitecaps
Shome's red card really woke the club up. I watched it on the replay and even with a yellow he would have been sent off. Ended up missing the goal as I was watching by the bar in the corner and saw Norman head the ball out. Figuring that was a corner for Cavalry I tried to get back to my seat but missed the goal. Oh well.
Probably the best parking experience I have ever had at a Cavalry game. In and out so easily, albeit with not a huge crowd on hand. Heard lots of bitching about Carlsberg but people were still drinking them. Had a couple Carlsberg 0's and they'll do for any game I'm not taking the bus.
It's good to be back...

I see they are selling obstructed view seats at %50 off, thats a nice touch.
They are also selling tickets in the fan zone that come with beer.
I have a hunch that last night is the last time that staidum is as empty as it was.
The value on tickets in great, especially with free parking.

Bad news for beer drinkers - the Carlsberg tall cans are $14, printed on a little piece of paper covering up the actual/future price of $15.
I'm mostly annoyed by proxy, because I don't need beer at a soccer game, and rarely have one anyway. And while I still think that they'd sell a lot more and make more profit at $10 or $12 (higher price does not always equal more profit), they can price it as they see fit, and it makes my decision easier too.
But complaining about the price of something I'm not buying anyway would take away from all of the good stuff yesterday.
Cavalry weren't stunning, but the match was fairly entertaining, even before the red card. But that red card sure changed things - for the better, ironically. It lit a fire and they caught Vancouver sleeping, and then defended with a mix of heroism, chaos, and a little bit of luck. When the red card came out, I was expecting them to park the bus and maybe try and steal something on a counter attack, or even try and hold on for penalties. I'm glad they got a quick one before hanging back. Even then, Vancouver looked vulnerable at times.
Parking was a breeze, but it was a bit of a smaller crowd. Once inside it felt pretty normal but with shorter lines, and the atmosphere was not too bad for a Tuesday night. Foot Soldiers really carried it throughout.
There is a new concession inside the entrance pavilion (or was that there last year)?. Didn't really look to see what they had because I have conditioned myself not to eat or drink whilst there (see first paragraph). There is some construction happening right as you come out of the pavilion - maybe they are opening that up into a plaza of sorts?
Not much else seemed different, which is fine. It was nice to be back, and the weather was excellent. Even when it cooled off towards the end, that nice damp, grassy smell started to emerge and it was lovely.

Way ahead of you. Got a couple on the go.
Don't blame our balls
Don't blame our balls
You couldn't beat us
Don't blame out balls
Or....
To the window to the wall
Til the Cavs switch out the balls
And all the Eagles fall

The key to sitting up front of the main stand; ie; first row, is dead middle of the row - between the support posts. I had to learn it the hard way, moving season tickets, but nailed it the last couple.

Seems like linear value, in that you miss half the game. Or you don't, and spend the savings on a chiro visit.

I'd be good with Vanney. If he could get Jozy Altidore to show up and play, he can handle the "big personalities".
Wait. Wrong thread for that. I'll move this over.

Absolutely wonderful story with the Halifax Wanderers. Fans and ownership are frustrated with the lack of tickets and are making plans to expand the stadium from 6500 to 8500 seats. What a great problem to have.
Season tickets are sold out and they expect sellouts all season.
Quote:
Season memberships for the 2024 season are sold out and a waitlist has been launched for next year’s tickets.
The buzz surrounding the team doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon, and neither do calls for a stadium expansion.
“We’re out of room. That’s the reality,” said Derek Martin, president of the Halifax Wanderers, as he stood on the Wanderers Ground sidelines during a media availability on Friday.
Some of the proposal’s main priorities involve a 2,000-seating expansion that would increase the venue’s total capacity to 8,500, the introduction of permanent grandstands to replace rented bleachers, and the installation of a bubble dome for year-round, multi-sport use

It's a $40mil expansion proposal, which seems large but right now they don't have running water or the ability to sell food, and the player dressing rooms are shipping containers. It's basically a "pop up" stadium which was fine for awhile or if the club didn't attract a sizable fanbase, but now that the city has shown it's support and therefore the importance of the team to the community, this makes a lot of sense.
I like that part of the proposal is not just expanding by 2000 seats but also changing the temporary bleachers into a proper grandstand.
