Gillies is also now Providence's all time shutout leader with 8 shutouts.

our Q prospects were successful today:

Emile Poirier had 1 goal and 1 assist in a 8-4 win over Saint John
Ryan Culkin had 1 goal and 1 assist in a 3-2 win over Chicoutimi

Poirier now has 17 goals and 19 assists in 23 games
Culkin now has 4 goals and 14 assists in 23 games

Nah.. here's Gillies freshman/sophmore(So far) (H-East) year:
35GP - 73GA - 5SO - .931 - 2.08
10GP - 16GA - 3SO - .949 - 1.59

Here's Ryan Miller (CCHA):
25GP - 33GA - 7SO - ? - 1.36
40GP - 54GA - 0SO - .950 - 1.32

That's probably his ceiling. Tim Thomas' numbers down below.

Tim Thomas:
33GP - 99GA - 0SO - ? - 3.03
34GP - 94GA - 4SO - ? - 2.69

He posted real similiar stats to cory schneider last year who was a first round pick. id be happy if gillies turns into schneider.

Gillies is especially tough to compare because he put up his freshman stats as an 18 year-old starter, where most of the comparables didn't become starters until they were 19 or 20 and often sophomores.

Cory Schneider played for perennial college powerhouse Boston College. In his two years at BC, the team won Hockey East, and played in the national championship game both seasons. They were the #2 and #1 highest-scoring team between 2005–2007. What Gillies is doing now is far, far more impressive so far than how Cory Schneider's college career played out. He pretty much is the team at Providence.

I think Gillies has the upside of Pekka Rinne..

A huge goalie with elite capabilities.

This guy is the reason we had no issues with trading Brossoit. With Ortio succeeding and Gillies en route there wasn't much room for Brossoit to get the playing time he needs to develop properly.

Gillies will probably turn pro next season. I think he is a better goalie prospect than most people realize. Last year Wiesbrod said he was their #1 prospect.

I think he is one of the prospects I'm most excited for. A home grown goalie is rare in Calgary.

Also in college hockey last night - Tim Harrison got 2 assists for Colgate, finally getting his first college points (I believe.)

Weird. HockeyDB has him as only having one assist in ten games.

which is correct. On the Colgate website, he's also only credited with 1 assist yesterday (LINK) ... was +3 on the game though.

I went to the oil kings swift current game last night and saw Coda Gordon for the first time.
From this game he seems the kind of player who can slide into the open spaces ( got into the slot for a one timer ) and will go to the front of the net to screen or try to deflect shots. The second swift current goal was a result of him going to the net and screening/distracting the goalie. He was used on both the PP and PK. He wasn't overly physical as he lost most of his battles for the puck down low and his speed seemed average/ slightly above for the whl. Of note it was a pretty lacklustre game with for both sides. The most noticeable players were Moroz for the oil kings and Honka and Heatherington for swift current, Griffen Reinhart looked disinterested.

Griffin Reinhart isnt a very good player. It is amusing that the Islanders drafted him so high.

I only saw Griffen Reinhart live twice, both times against the Blazers and I did not see anything special. Just a big average defenseman. To be fair, that's what I thought about Myers when I saw him and then he won a Calder Trophy

And then went on to do nothing of note ever again. haha. Myers road a massive percentages wave in his rookie year, once the very lucky bounces stopped going his way, he look like what he is, a bottom pairing dman.

The thing with Gillies, is that he has a quick glove, a quick blocker, gets down quickly, gets up quickly and is positionally sound. Plus he's so big that he takes up the entire net. There was one drill during the July camp where Gillies was on his knees huging the post and there was only about 2 inches between his shoulder and the crossbar, so there's basically nothing to shoot at if he's facing shooters from the top of the crease. The only area of weakness is his side to side movement, which is as bad as Luongo's (who's not terrible for a larger goalie). The only reliable way that he was scored on back in July was when he was forced to move side to side. Beyond that it was mostly save after save.

If he continues to progress as he has been, he could very well be a top 5 goalie in the league, if not a perennial contender for the Vezina. With all of his secondary skills being well above average he, at the worst, should develop into an average starter.

I like goalies a lot (hence my user name), and from the prospects I've watched there were only a couple that I liked as much with their game before they became NHLers (Miller, Lundqvist, Quick, and Fredrik Andersen were the others) If he becomes as good as any of those guys in the NHL then we're going to be set in net for a long long time

I also thought Luke Schenn looked average. Derrick Pouliot is the most impressive and offensively dangerous defenseman I've ever seen (not in the NHL). Which likely means he won't make the NHL

I cannot judge junior players

Ah, yes - the Colgate-Clarkson boxscore showed he had an assist on the first and second Raiders goals when I checked it on Saturday, but the first one got removed some time later...my mistake.
