Manderley will deliver. I was impressed by the freshness of the sod provided. Not sure price wise how they compare to Burnco.
I guess i depends how much you need. Re-sod of a lawn (Manderley), a few rolls to patch some damage (whatever is most convenient).

I had Perfect Turf install it last year and it cost about $10 per sqft installed. It depends on what type of turf you get as some of them are a little more expensive than others.
I specifically went for durable pet rated turf in my backyard, as I have 3 very large dogs (160, 130 and 80 lb dogs). I kept our front yard as natural grass.
They did it in 2 days. Did an excellent job. No issues whatsoever during the install. There is a slightly elevated area in my backyard because of the tree roots, but it is barely noticeable.
Turf has held up amazingly with the dogs and there hasn't been any issues. Dogs love it too. No aversions whatsoever to using it to do their business. Just hose it down every 2 weeks or so and that is all you need to do. No drainage issues even with all this melt in the last few weeks.
The way turf in general looks now, most people have to do a double take in the summer to know it is even turf. This isn't like a cheap indoor stadium.

I'm not an expert, but I would do both at the same time. The grass seed should just feed itself (it is seed after all), and the fertilizer would do work for the existing grass.
One thing about grass seed is you have to water it like crazy to get it to work. When I re-seeded an area beside my house I probably watered dirt for like 3 weeks straight and my neighbour was laughing at me. Finally the seed started to grow after that, but it took forever.

Dethatch, aerate, top dress with compost, seed, fertilize (root growth fertilizer, high in potassium I think it is, the second number) work the seed into the compost with the back of a leaf rake, and keep it moist.

What do I need to know about hedge trimmers? I have two cotoneaster hedges that I want to keep in check, so it would need to handle something like that. It seems there is quite a range of hedge trimmers out there, so what should I buy?

What sort of company should I be calling to look at my outside hose taps to get them fixed? A general plumber, or an irrigation company? One leaks before the threads and needs to get fixed so I can actually use it.
The other part of my question - anyone know a good irrigation company that can fix a main line connection? The way ours was installed by the owner before us (and the subsequent repairs by them) appear to be rank amateur hour to say the least. Basically, there's some PVC pipe from the outside tap that goes out down into the ground into the valve-box. There's been a few crappily done patch jobs to fix leaks, but there's another leak there that has shown up this spring, so I think the full thing needs to be replaces, and I don't have the time or ability to do it.

Does anyone know where to get rainbird items? This item in particular "PRF100RBY - 1 in. Pressure-Regulating Filter (RBY)"
Can't seem to order it from the website or Amazon.
The one I currently have (from previous owners) is leaking and shooting water everywhere. New o ring didn't seem to help. Any other suggestion? Have checked lowes but they only have the 3/4 inch .

Consolidated Turf just off Blackfoot/Deerfoot is my go to for irrigation. Should likely have it or can order.

Anyone recommend a good and reasonable sprinkler system guy? I think my system needs a bit of work.

I am planning on planting a few new trees this weekend. Does anyone have a good step by step guide they have used for new tree planting? Any tips?

Anyone else been getting free compost from the composting facility? Got there at 9:15am and the lineup was backed up to Stoney Trail. My sister got there at noon and there was only 5 people in line. If you're planning on going, go later in the afternoon.
Kinda disappointed that the city isn't offering compost year round after this month is over. Its being sold to farmers, or being used in city parks.
I saw one truck loading up 4 city green/blue bins. There's supposed to be a 100 litre limit per vehicle, but no ones monitoring this.

Went to Sunnyside yesterday and was pretty disappointed to see there was practically nothing left in stock. I had assumed they would run more or less business as usual until the end of summer but they could practically shut down any day now. I understand they don't want to be left with inventory at the end of the season but the season has barely started and there is nothing left to buy. I feel for the students who are working there as they will all be out out a job before long by the looks of it.

The plant buying season dries up in early summer anyway. I worked there for two summers and you were mainly working April/May/June and then had to find something else.

Yeah I was surprised - I wanted to buy some basic garden supplies (hose attachments etc.) and that whole section was already gone. Basically just some annuals (way less than usual), a really paltry selection of leftover perennials, and some bags of gardening soil. Not worth going back again.

Fair to say if I needed to pick up a few rolls of sod, don't waste my time going to Sunnyside?
