Default Help Needed Exporting a Video

I know that there are a bunch of people who are significantly better with the internet than I am at technological aspects of the internet and as a result I am in need of a favour.

For a project on Alzheimer's at university teaching a class of nursing students, I need to export a video from the Globe and Mail but I have no idea how to do this

If anyone could help it would be great

This is a link to the website

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/...rticle1709990/

Thanks for your help!

What is the final result you would like? Are you trying to have the file so you can play it on a non-internet connected computer? If not, there are probably easier options than finding a downloader that will pull it from the globe and mail site.

I need to have it as part of a CD which is then distributed to members of the class... Damn nursing students.

Why not just create a HTML shortcut to the video and include it on the CD?

You would think so but apparently that isn't easy enough...

You could use a screen capture program like SnagIt. Most of those can capture a cropped section of the screen (eg. just the video) and audio, resulting in a reasonable quality copy of the video.

I can do this for you, what file format would you like it in? Or do you just want the original file, which is Flash video or .FLV format.

I've used a program called Orbit downloader to get flash videos before.. I have it in a virtual machine because the software is pretty intrusive. I tried it with that video though and it didn't seem to work.

Orbit is one step away from spyware IMO. Anyway I was able to capture the file using a few "tricks". BTW, if you plan on distributing this, I would think about usage rights.

Lol yup, that's why I put it in a virtual machine instead of having it gunk up my computer.

The only distribution is to a class in the nursing department of which I need a single copy in order to give to a single person for grading past that it really isn't a huge deal... just more of a hassle associated with a project for teaching nursing students about alzheimer's
