I hope Bennett learned from that last 5 minutes. Might need to sit another game, lol.

Nah:

- Trade 2018 1st for Hayes
- Trade Kulak + 3rd for Komarov at TDL
- Sign Stone in free agency (he's played in Calgary before)

Games like this frustrate me the most. 4-3, but the score truly flattered the Flames. Just a sad, pathetic effort all game. Credit to the Preds for shutting them down. But the Flames have no one to blame but themselves for this one. They should have been able to impose their will like the did vs the Panthers. Showing up in the last 4 minutes of a 60 minute game is beyond terrible, especially for a team missing their top pairing on D.

Sadly, the win one lose one routine continues. I'm legit scared for the Oilers game on the weekend. Likely looking at a series sweep

Feel bad for Johnson as I'm sure he's more than a little disappointed he hasn't been able to snag this opportunity to emerge as the team's number one.

With Elliot struggling and Johnson's success pre-Christmas, everything was in place for Chad but he ended up putting together a stretch of games with very mediocre results.

He's still been better than Elliot mostly, but his recent play won't be convincing Treliving that he can try having Johnson run with it next year with a contract that matches that view.

Hard to know exactly what went on there for the first 56 minutes....mostly the Flames running around doing not much. Looked a bit like the NJ game - they just have a tough time against a hard-checking team.

FWIW, I really wish Johnny would just react a couple of times when he's slashed - particularly when it's the second time in a short time like with Johansen; just turn around and give him a double-hander across the arms. Do that a few times and guys will start to take fewer liberties. He'll take penalties for it, but maybe create some space, too.

And the high-stick on Backs at centre was inexcusable to miss. Other than that I thought the reffing was generally poor - but at least somewhat even.

The Flames just look tired. Dunno why, but they just look tired and slow.

So they were saving their energy for the final 5 minutes...just a pathetic effort all around.

Gio needs to be way better, Gaudreau and Brodie as well.

Burn the tape and off to the Oilers. If they come out flat again, heads need to roll.

I'm still pissed at Hamilton for that miscue on his partial breakaway. Makes a clear cut around the defender to a clear path to the net. Only to...skate past the net and try to pass out front? WTF? Reminds of of when I'm playing EA's NHL and I get sweat on the controller and my hand slips off the joystick as I'm on a breakaway.

Yet another game, yet more Gaudreau whining to the refs when he gets whacked. Sigh.

I feel like the team has gone full advanced stats hockey and abandoned intangibles like heart, grit, determination. Sure its been working at times but it also takes the pulse, instincts and creativity out of the game. I think its why the top players are struggling and the team just can't find a real top gear. Its just paint by numbers hockey and hope the stats fall in our favour. Its been a really weird year to watch and I can't say I've been very entertained, even when winning.

I don't think the Flames only played five minutes. They got 14 shots in the first period and Saros was excellent. He let out almost no rebounds and made some good saves off tips from the high slot.

Flames sucked after that til the end. Gaudreau is struggling mightily and I didn't like Giordano's game tonight either.

I've just about lost faith in Johnson as a starter. Not just this game and I'm not entirely sure what it is but I think they need to keep looking.

Glad to help, I guess

It's late at night, my player valuations are weirder than usual

Get Brodie off the left side and get Wideman far away from him. FFS

Now carry over those last 5 minutes and give that pimply-faced, lottery ball-pit team a vintage 8-1 spanking. They've had it coming all season.
