Edit: I should note that I'm currently of two opinions... 1) The huge dropoff between our #3D and #4D is our most glaring weakness, and 2) Shattenkirk isn't going to re-sign in St. Louis. If I'm wrong about either of those, then forget the whole thing and give me another solid helping of crack.

You would give up a 4th overall pick (who still have loads of potential, despite a pretty ugly season so far) for a UFA, who miiiiiiight sign with the team, but definitely not at any kind of discount?

No, I was pretty clear about re-signing Shattenkirk, although the money I suggested was a pipe dream. I wasn't at all suggesting it be for a loaner.

Would need to be done post expansion draft but I do agree he seems like the surplus piece right now.

However you don't trade him until his trajectory improves as you are selling low right now

The guy is not total garbage. Come on already. If there is a lesson here, Flames need to look at how they have inserted all their high draft picks straight into the lineup. Maybe that wasn't the best for Bennett. He seems like he hasn't changed his game much from junior and maybe he would have been served with some AHL time.

The Oilers were ridiculed for signing young players to $6 million contracts and for gifting roster spots to high draft picks.
