The Red Sox have traded Clay Buchholz to the Phillies for Josh Tobias, and my long nightmare of watching Buchholz pitch is over.

I thought it was a long term deal, not just an arbitration deal.

Great news on Raines. He really was a do everything leadoff hitter for the Expos. He hit for average, had a high on base, stole a lot of bases, and put up respectable slugging numbers. He was exactly what advanced stats people want in a leadoff hitter 25 years before they knew it.

Terrible news out of the Dominican Republic this morning.
Yordano Ventura the Royals RHP was killed in a car accident at age 25.

Yordano Ventura was the starting pitcher in Andy Marte's last MLB game. Crazy.

It's unfortunate. Who knows what the circumstances are in these two cases, but to me it seems like MLB players have to get better training on being more responsible off the field. Forget money and their responsibility to their organizations, they should think about what this does to their own families. These guys are killing themselves in such avoidable ways.

For anyone interested, Tim Raines will be on TSN radio in Montreal at 2:30 today (Monday), Calgary time, with host Mitch Melnyk. I expect it will be excellent.
