Nobody wanted to go to Sochi, just like nobody wants to go to Russia for the 2018 World Cup. So the likeable part of Europe hasn't hosted in a while.

I'm curious if Phelps will get another DUI that everyone just pretends never happened.

It's just as it is in the NFL, perform at a high level and you can literally kill people and go to the Hall of Fame. Perform like Ryan Lochte and you're a pariah.

Ryan Lochte has 12 Olympic medals. I guess somewhere between 12 and 28 Olympic medals is the pariah cutoff.

Phelps has more individual golds than Lochte has total medals. I said a high level, only 2 individual golds is not a high level, certainly not high enough to act like the clown he has. Phelps can smoke weed and DUI as much as he wants because he's that much better than Lochte.

Ah, you're talking Summer Olympics costs. I would suggest that Winter Olympics cost far far less than Summer Olympics (I think its safe to ignore Socchi).

Vancouver for example cost about $6.4B, of which about $2.5B went to transportation upgrades and $900M to a new convention centre.

Yes, my source is Wikipedia.

I would suggest that a Calgary Winter Olympics would cost well under $5B.

Japan is hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2019 (September/October) and I would assume that at least some of the venues are going to be used for that. Its quite remarkable to host a major event like the RWC and then the Olympics 10-11 months later!

When you figure out how or build such an advanced society with so few sovereign resources, Japan hosting the Olympics is on par with me preparing a Thanksgiving dinner.

I have no idea if it's possible at all and if it's just them talking her up, but apparently my cousins daughter is one of the best long/triple jumpers in the province(BC) and went to some pre-Olympic trials and did really well. She's going to UBC in the fall on a track and field scholarship.

So Calgary 2026 confirmed. But when will Calgary host the Summer Olympics? That would be awesome.

Toronto and Vancouver would be so jelly.

Not really...it's so much bigger than the Winter Olympics, so much more expensive to run, and the facilities so much bigger and expensive to build. If there's only a slim case to made to break even on a Winter Olympics, then how do you logically support a Summer bid?

I don't recall a lot of specifics since I'm more focused on the Senior events but I do remember she won the silver medal in the Junior Triple Jump.

Trying to talk the wife into planning a family vacation to Tokyo 2020. I've always wanted to see Japan, and it would be a good reason to go, if a little crowded.

Apparently Damian Warner is one of the laziest people around! Maybe I can become an Olympic athlete!

(Jokingly of course, but a really close friend knows him very well and calls him extremely lazy haha)
