Sled Island's second wave of 2016 artists will be revealed this Tuesday, March 22.

To celebrate, we're heading to Local 510 on Thursday, March 24 for a free party where we'll be screening videos from just-announced festival acts. Come on down and get acquainted with our 2016 lineup!

Joining an already stellar lineup are Brooklyn kings of psych and drone Oneida (who will share a bill with previously announced post-punk band Protomartyr), experimental sludge-doom band SubRosa, new lo-fi pop project of Hunx and His Punx frontman The Seth Bogart Show, California punk weirdos together PANGEA, tongue-in-cheek garage-rock four-piece Chastity Belt, breezy Montreal pop group TOPS, recently-reformed and much-loved indie rock project Land of Talk (who will join Sled Island’s outdoor Olympic Plaza bill on June 25 featuring Guided By Voices, Built to Spill, SUUNS and more to be announced), slow-burning folk experimentalist Circuit Des Yeux, metal-inspired noise-rock favourites Crosss, frenetic free jazz group JOOKLO ZAPPA (featuring Stanley Zappa, nephew of Frank Zappa!), East Coast pop hero Shotgun Jimmie, buzzy post-punk faves Fountain and gritty coldwave project of former Calgarian Andrew Flegel, BLANKA.

As previously announced, Sled Island is proud to welcome Peaches as 2016 guest curator. Peaches’ just-announced selections include otherworldly electronic beat-maker Planningtorock, smart-mouthed hip-hop party-starter Cakes Da Killa, razor-sharp New York rapper Junglepussy, bold Baltimore club trailblazer TT The Artist, ferocious physical performance duo Hyenaz and hot and heavy electro-pop artist Vice Cooler (who will open for Peaches at Flames Central on June 25). Additional selections will be announced in the coming weeks.

Even more artists announced today include Astral Gunk, Davachi/Smith, Feed Dogs, The Highest Order, HSY, Johnny De Courcy, Marlaena Moore, Máscaras, Partner, Shearing Pinx, Sightlines, Yes We Mystic and Zad Kokar. We're especially proud to showcase hometown acts Blü Shorts, Crack Cloud, Form, Lab Coast, Numenorean, PMMA and Slo Dance.

Looks like things get rolling early Tuesday night at Commonwealth. Many more venues get going Wednesday and Thursday night.

A vital part of Sled Island since its inaugural year, the annual Sled Island Poster Show pairs local artists with musicians playing the festival to create limited edition, hand-silkscreened posters by Burnt Toast Studios! Posters will be on display and for purchase.

Nothing really sticks out for me this year.

I like some of the local acts, but can see them play often.

Was really hoping they would bring Explosions In The Sky one of these years since they couldn't play in 2013 because of the floods.

I'm pretty lame and will probably just hit up the Saturday Olympic Plaza show for Speedy Ortiz & Built to Spill.

Last year's the weather was great for Television, great way to spend an evening.

Okay, for someone who has never heard of this, what is the best way to attend? I checked out the website and was overwhelmed by the number of bands, films, art events. I would just want to "dabble" with a friend on a Friday or Saturday. The $200 passes seem a bit much if you're only going to look around for a couple hours. But without that, it seems you're limited to paying for tickets for specific acts or Olympic Plaza, correct?

It might be too late to volunteer for this year, but that is a good way to earn a free pass.

The Saturday line-up at Olympic Plaza is always good, and there is a beer garden and food trucks. Only problem is the weather - rain can make the venue uncomfortable.

Some of the biggest shows will be sold out, but you can usually get entry at the door every day at some of the venues if you arrive early enough - ex. Local, Palomino, Legion.
