I don't post often, primarily because I don't often have a whole ton to add - but I am geeked out of my mind that I will finally be attending my first NHL game at the Saddledome. I have been a fan since I really discovered hockey in 2003 (pretty good timing for a Flames fan), and have been hooked (thanks to Center Ice) ever since. I have lurked at CalgaryPuck for many years now.
I'm flying up from Seattle tomorrow morning for the game tomorrow evening and flying home Sunday - but wanted to see if there are any pre-game spots or things that I just can't miss...I am meeting with some friends for lunch but otherwise just hanging out downtown...would love any recommendations.
Thanks everyone!

I can relate. My first Flames game was against the Oilers in the 1st or 2nd year of the Dome and the Oilers won 9-2. If I remember correctly, the Flames outshot them that night.

My first Flames game was at the Winnipeg Arena and they got smoked 7-2 with Wamsley in net. The only good thing about it was I got to see Fleury score.
Hahaha, you guys are awesome. Got back into town this evening. So many things...
The game was what it was...that familiar bubbling up of hatred towards the morons wearing blue and orange around me was almost pleasant with all its vitriol. I can't wait until my next Battle.
The experience was awesome...I had waited too long for this to let our boys drag me down. It WAS weird to be around so many Flames fans...where I live half of the folks who see the flaming C (my wardrobe is at least half Flames-related) ask if it stands for Canada.
I can save my thoughts about the game itself for another time (but seriously, these line combinations are AWFUL), but a once-in-a-lifetime type of night. I must say, though, all of you in Calgary deserve a better barn. I frequent the luxury suites here at home (CenturyLink Field, Husky Stadium) and while I know that they are apples-to-oranges comparisons, a new arena will only do wonders. All of the facilities seem to be in pretty decent need of an upgrade..from concessions to restrooms to actual seating.
All of that being said, I'm glad I got to see the Saddledome before the team moves on to another building. What an iconic building and an experience I won't forget. The product on the ice is so much more special in person; I recognize that my experience is a bit unique since I never played hockey, even in my youth - so the ideas of settling down the puck and getting bodies in front of the net are more impressive in person...there is just so much more you can take in.
And screw that McDavid guy - a very self-loathing part of me was excited to see him in person, and good hell he's impressive - but screw that guy.
Thanks to everyone for the recommendations - I think it's easy to remember where we were two years ago as a team and the playoff series win over Vancouver and to be frustrated, but the core of this team is SO young and often SO inconsistent. I have a lot of issues/reservations about this year's coaching/system (as do many others), but I don't think any of our main guys have hit their respective ceilings. I can be patient.

I think it's absolutely fantastic that you can be as positive about the team as you are. You easily have the biggest reason to be more upset than anyone. Your opinion and perception is refreshing, I'm glad you enjoyed your first trip to the Saddledome, and we're hoping your next one will culminate in a win!
