So if you are forced to protect a goalie it seems weird that it can be someone who doesn't meet exposure requirements (i.e. a pending UFA).

Vegas could sign a pending UFA and it would count as an expansion pick (Engelland, for example).

Well Vegas can still negotiate with those players prior to FA, so if you protect one it is still in your best interests?

True, but they only have 10 of those picks available to them (because they have to pick a minimum of 20 players with contracts going into at least next season).
ETA: I think Engelland is a pretty good possibility.

Who would be the 4th forward they'd protect after Forsberg, Johansen and Arvidsson?
Wilson? Smith? Sissons? Aberg? Jarnkrok?

Have you seen the Jarnkrok contract? That is a sweet deal. I can't see them not protecting him.

You are incorrect. Miss Teeks posted a tweet from Ryan Pike that states as such just a page back in this thread

Aaron Portzline @Aportzline
#CBJ did not ask veteran forward Scott Hartnell to waive his no-move clause by today's 5 p.m. deadline.

Hard to say with Hartnell - you can definitely tell he took a large decline in goals and pims this year, definitely has lost a step but still serviceable numbers for a bottom 6/3rd line guy. That's a tough contract though.. two years left at 4.75 mill, still have to pay out 8 mill in total salary and he'll be 37 when its done. Very glad we didn't go for this guy when he was rumored last year and I really wanted him at the time.

If the Flames traded for Hartnell they probably wouldn't have signed Brouwer.
Too bad.

If the Preds leave Neal unprotected I hope there is trade potential with the Flames. He's exactly what Calgary's top line needs.
