Which picks do we need for offer sheets? The 2018 picks?
If so, how about an offer sheet on Toffoli?
5 x $5.4 would be a 1st and 3rd IIRC and even if they matched it would mess up a divisional rivals cap even more, considering they're going to have to give Pearson a big raise this year too after a 24 goal, 44 point season.

George McPhee confirmed that he had talks with Tim Murray about an expansion draft deal, but now on hold after he got fired:

Keep your eye out on a story just filed on Golden Knights GM McPhee confirming he had productive talks - but no deal - with #Sabres Murray.

McPhee wasn't specific, but said potential expansion draft deal now on hold with Murray
Will have to revisit with new #Sabres regime.

Las Vegas will also have the no state income tax advantage. They should be able to make a good run at any big name UFA/RFA.

I wonder if players are going to be restricted from going down to the strip at all. When I was looking into playing baseball at UNLV they have a policy against any student athletes even being on the strip.

Yes if we tender an offer sheet and it is signed the picks are for the next season and beyond (depending on the value of the contract)
Toffoli would be a nice pickup for our top line.

I just realized my idea couldn't be executed anyways, at least not for that amount, because we don't technically have our 2018 3rd, it's still in limbo depending on what happens with Elliott.

All the more reason to move on from Elliott in my opinion. That and we need a legit starting goalie

I'm pretty sure they could offer sheet tofoli but that would mean they just can't sign Elliot, which wouldn't be bad. I don't think they have to wait to not sign Elliot, they can just give the offer sheet and make it know Elliot is no lo get an option for them...I think

I'm not "reporting" it or guaranteeing it will happen, but if Jonathan Drouin were dealt, I wouldn't be shocked:

Would definitely package our first+ to get Drouin. Ridiculous hands, plays gritty, elite skater, unreal vision.
Drouin could become Sam Bennett's LW, while we move Tkachuk to RW (where he played with Marner in London).

I like the looks of that, and Tkachuk and Ferland are pretty much interchangeable there IMO

What's the +?
I would like to add Drouin as well but the 17th pick in a weak draft doesn't get it done. I think it takes Backlund or one of our young forwards to get him and I don't want to do that (could live with moving Backlund depending on the contract for Drouin)

Gonna be hard to get Drouin without giving up a young core piece, but if anyone can do it Tre can. Of course pulling that off with Yzerman might be harder than it was with Sweeney. Plus we don't have 3 second rounders this year, we have zero. Plus it's a much weaker draft than in 2015.
But yeah, adding Drouin would be just ridiculous.

Yeah, it was discussed a few days ago what was behind McKenzie's speculation that the Lightning would move Drouin. Essentially McKenzie thinks it is possible that:
1. Drouin won't be asking for a bridge deal and wants a deal similar to others in his draft class like Mackinnon (6x$6.3) and Barkov (6x$5.9) and that is a no go for the Lightning's cap structure and potentially opens them up for an offer sheet.
2. The Lightning can use Drouin to trade for an elite d-man
Seems like a bad fit if for the Flames if the above is true.

What about an offer sheet?
5 x $5.6 is a 1st and 3rd rounder correct?
Can Tampa match that without really screwing their cap up?

Also, can you really get an "elite" Dman for a winger?

Go 5 x 6.25 and call it a day. Give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Would gladly pay that for Drouin.
