Tougher second set. Denis was getting a bit too fancy, but when it looked like he was going to be broken, he dug down deep. Adversity = good.
Finish it off in three!

I think if Milos comes back healthy, Canada has a legit shot at the 2018 Davis Cup.
Wishful thinking?

A healthy Milos is key. They made the SFs not too long ago and with the right group, they're definitely competitive.
You throw Félix Auger-Aliassime in the mix and it's tough not to get excited.

I don't know a lot about Davis Cup and how it works. Does anyone know if Schnur still plays Bhambri or is it over?

Yup, they're still playing. The result will still count in a player's Davis Cup record, etc. It's referred to as a dead rubber.

Although they lost in the final, nicely done ladies.

A great Davis Cup weekend again. I think it's safe to say Edmonton will not host again for a long time. The crowd was very embarrassing. I think there must have been max 2,500 all weekend. The Friday 50/50 jackpot was only $1,800. He's to hoping they get France, Serbia, Switzerland or Germany and we get a very exciting tie on their return to the world group.
I capped off the weekend by getting Shapo to sign my chapeau.

Looks like I must eat my words. They had just under 5,000 according to this article. http://m.edmontonsun.com/2017/09/17/...rn-to-edmonton
The Corral has a capacity of over 6,000 and not much else going on. Good chance we get a home tie in February

I was figuring around 4-5000 would be the announced based on Friday. Yesterday looked much emptier on TV, surprisingly.
And Tennis Canada has already made it clear that it thinks it's too good for the Corral now. Which sucks, as by size, it's the best size arena in Alberta for this. Northlands was just far too big. I'd say the only other appropriately sized arena in the province is the Centrium in Red Deer.

I went to the Sunday match. I didn't think the crowd was too bad. That Ump sure was getting annoyed with that one cheering section, he had to point his finger at them before every Ramanathan serve. My wife and I had fun we enjoyed it.

Friday was definitely sparse as you say and that has a lot to do with the early start on a weekday - that scheduling needs to be rectified in future events. Saturday was much better attended and Sunday was a fantastic crowd with all things considered.
The world group rounds are always better attended than these playoffs simply because the competition is better. Had India been a 'sexier' draw you'd see more of the casual tennis fans come out and improve the attendance figures for sure.

About a year ago, I asked Tennis Canada if they'd come back to Calgary anytime soon. They said the Corral is too outdated in terms of getting proper broadcasting technology and the press area, which I can attest to.
However, they did mention Arena A at WinSport's Markin MacPhail is something they've considered, but scheduling has been an issue in the past.
