It's sorta the opposite of the Edmonton poster in someone's sig that says basically "if we were winning you guys would think the team was better".

He needs to go back to the OHL. Then when next season comes he needs to go back to the OHL again. Let him dominate down there and get stronger, we are not winning the Cup next year anyhow.

The thing is Bennett is likely going to force managements hand. if he plays good enough he will make the team and I don't see him not making the team next year. He looked great this preseason

I don't care how great he looked, his style of game combined with a whole season missed means he needs to go back to Kingston.

That's like saying Gaudreau or Monahan should have gone back to their teams because we aren't going to make the playoffs. If the Hartley and his coaching staff feel he's ready to play in the NHL and that it is the next step is his development then he plays in the NHL. Where the team as a whole finishes should have no effect on player decisions

Yeah, not really sure how anyone can already come to the conclusion that he needs to go back to the OHL for another full season.
I agree he probably should go back for the remainder of this season to get back up to speed. But you would think with the knowledge he has gained from being around the Flames all season, and Hartley's indication that he would have gotten a 9 game tryout at the start of this season, that there is a good chance he is ready for the NHL next season. He's already dominated the OHL, and will have this summer to get stronger. If anything, going back to the OHL could actually be the wrong path for his development.
It could go either way, and no one will know for sure until we see him play a regular season game. Whether we are playoff contenders or not shouldn't have any bearing on the decision.

When exactly is he going to force management’s hand? I thought we were discussing what to do with Bennett when he recovers from surgery this year. He’s not going to get a chance to prove himself at the NHL level right away. The question is whether to send him down to the AHL for a conditioning stint, or straight back to junior. Since that decision pretty much has to be made before he plays any games, there is no way for him to force anybody’s hand.

He would push someone else off the roster, so unless they are really sure he will stick or there is convenient timing with injuries I don't see him playing in the NHL this year

He was responding to Dissentowner who said Bennett should spend all of next season in the OHL as well.

He should. His game is built around a scrappy hard hitting type. Combine that with all the time missed, his age, and I think he would be better served in the O next season.

Why though? He's no smaller than scrappy players like Byron and others...

That may be the case. But don’t you think next year’s training camp would be a better time to make that decision?
A lot could happen between now and then, after all. Bennett could get bitten by a radioactive spider, or better yet, he could get big superpowers by eating a bag of Johnny Gaudreau’s magic Skittles.
