A certain percentage of the fanbase would have lost their #### because "the Flames' owners are going for it!"

I would rather forego the upside of this deal then have to listen to the garbage that would get posted about it

Dude...have you seen his play lately? I'm not kidding, even at 50% retained he's a ripoff. Unless something miraculous happened in the Player's Rehab or whatever, he has been nothing short of 'hot-awful' for a long time now.

Why exactly should the Flames have traded a draft pick for a 31 year old forward who is barely clinging to an NHL career?
Because if he recovers, he'd be worth much more next year - there is potential here for a very profitable flip

Not to mention, we would have someone that can score regularly in the shootout. might take a week for him to get it to the net, but it always seems to go in.

True, but there is also a chance he doesn't recover and now you've just burned a pick for nothing.

I think that’s what picks are for. They are never a sure thing .

Rebuild. Half salary for one year and trade next deadline. This is how rebuilds work.

I assume none here have watched this guy. He's absolutely terrible at this point and has a drug use problem. This is what I meant by saying Waddell is a garbage bin diver.

I'm pretty surprised the Canes wanted to touch this. With all his issues, his poor play, and another year on that contract it's 10' pole territory.

This trade proved it. Unless you think a 3rd round pick is worth $7.8M.

He passed through waivers, which indicates negative value.

I really don't understand why Carolina would do this. Definitely a hail mary here

Pay a 3rd to bring on an unhappy player with lots of off ice issues at a $3.9M salary for a full year. Pray he can become productive again so you can use up a retenion slot and hopefully at least get a 3rd back that is worse than the one you gave up. Best case probably get a second at the bottom of the round when you gave up a 3rd at the top of the round. Not how a rebuild works, that cap space and retention has actual value.

There are better avenues to rebuild than to waste picks on 31 year olds who are unlikely to rebound IMO, but I guess we will see how he does in Carolina.

He's been one of the worst forwards in the league for almost two seasons now. There's no bounce back, he is cooked.

He's also a bit of a wildcard. Wasn't he the one who pulled the Ruzicka photo thing first (but was a good player so wasn't wavied) and then was in the assistance program recently. Also managed to get himself suspended for breaking Covid protocols during all of that.

You also don't rebuild by spending assets to sign said 31 year old. They could have had him for free on waivers.

Ok, sure. But I'm still surprised that Kuznetsov at $3.9M has positive value.

The Cobra and a few others mocked my suggestion that someone might take a chance on him in the summer after his bonus is paid, and the Caps eat 50%. I was dead wrong...someone paid a pick to take him now at this price.

I don't watch any Capitals games, so I have not seen how bad he is right now. But his J Fresh card is fugly.

Carolina likes a good reclaim project, but this one is pretty pricey. Unless he's really resolved to change, not sure how long Brind'Amour will pit up with him.
