With the revolving door of bottom pairing Dmen, any chance we can get Stone to un retire?

Statistically he was the top Dman on the night.

Prior to the trade the most common d-partners were:

Phaneuf - Regehr
Bouwmeester - Gio or Bouwmeester-Sarich
Gio - Pardy or Sarich-Pardy

Still think the coaching staff insistence of trying to force Regehr and Phaneuf to be a thing...until they ended up just trading Phaneuf...was the biggest mistake.

Bouwmeester - Regehr
Phaneuf - Sarich
Gio - Pardy

Still so weird that they didn't seem to want to play Bouwmeester and Reggie together at all that season.

Will we look back at these two trades and waiver wire pickups with great alarm and awe. Is Conny playing 3D chess?

I was thinking about this, guy trades two Dmen for picks and younger Dmen and also takes a Dman from each team he traded with off waivers.

Out: Tanev
In: Hanley, Grushnikov, 2nd, Cond 3rd

Out: Hanifin
In: Pachal, Miromanov, 1st, Cond 3rd

Pretty crazy

Flames pro scouting/analytics are killing it right now.

Kudos to all those involved!

I think Pachal has been great - found money. And I hope/expect Hanley can be a serviceable 6/7 guy. But arguing that they are going to replace Hanifin and Tanev because xGF% is why these stats are so ridiculous.

This checks out, Hanley looked really solid last night. Moved well, was responsible and even got some pucks through to the net.

Not what I was expecting two days after being picked up off waivers.

Haven't seen Hanley enough to be confident in him, but Pachal seems like a lock for at least the 3rd pair next year. He's been surprisingly consistent. Skates well, has a physical edge, and there are hints of offense from him now and then. Will have to see on Hanley as he auditions for the rest of this year.

I agree, some great waiver pickups for the Flames. Kudos to Huska as well for putting players in a position to succeed.

I have a feeling that the Flames will go hard after a top 4 defensive D in the offseason. I think that they will go after: Pesce, DeMelo, and Roy in that order.

Yup. I like the pick-ups but those stats are misleading. Pachal & Hanley were bottom pairing guys playing the minutes, zones, and quality of competition you'd expect of bottom pairing guys. If that guy is serious and legit thinks that they could do it playing almost twice as many minutes against guys way more talented starting closer to their own end... well I hope I get to gamble against that guy one day.
