His decision making was very poor which had nothing to do with who played with. People really have a hard time criticizing Johnny.
Maybe trying to do too much. He was facing maybe the best shutdown forward in the world in the Ducks series so that probably has more to do with it than anything.

If he can't figure out how to play big, heavy teams, this team won't have a ton of success.
It's been pointed out multiple times when people try to toss this out as a blanket statement that he has had significant success against big, heavy teams like Los Angeles and Winnipeg in his career thus far.
It's no coincidence the entire team seems to struggle against Anaheim, but as our core matures I'm sure that tide will begin to change.
It actually kind of feels like Johnny has had almost nothing but criticism this season.
Yup, which is pretty ridiculous for a guy who still led the team in scoring despite having a slow start and missing a bunch of games due to injury. He definitely struggled in the Ducks series and often has a tougher time against bigger, heavier teams. But so does a guy like McDavid who pretty much disappeared in these playoffs. Hell, even superstars like Kane and Toews only had 4 points between the two of them in round 1.
Johnny is still a young guy learning how to play in this league, and I have no doubt he'll make the necessary adjustments to his game going forward.
As an aside, I'll be making a Johnny World Cup video once the tournament is finished.
Unfortunately I have to make do with paltry 25 and 30 fps broadcasts mostly.
All my Flames videos will be the best quality 60 fps I've ever had access to. The amount of footage I have in 60 fps has probably increased by 25% each of the past 5 seasons.

Honestly I wonder what kind of package would be needed to acquire Hayes + Raanta
Bring back Chad as a backup or Rittch. Let Gillies start in Stockton with Parsons as his backup (or should McDonald back Gillies up and Parsons start in Adirondack...)
Bring back Michael Stone and Versteeg
Promote Jankowski
Let Gaudreau play on the RW since it seems to be working?
Can someone who watched it explain why Simmonds's goal in the first was waved off? I'm baffled.

That Hayes/Gaudreau combo was pretty darn good. Of course, take into account competition, ice size, etc.
I've always been leery of the "they played well together in junior/university" ever since Hnat.
Those passes that Hayes made to Gaudreau bleeds elite hockey IQ. Regardless of whether him and Gaudreau work together at the NHL level, he'd be a great player to have on the team for his rare size, skill and skating combo.
Adding 6'5 Hayes and 6'4 Jankowski in an offseason would be huge (literally and figuratively) for the complexion of our forward core going forward.
