How typical is this. For the first time in many years the Flames decide to sell off some players who just happen to be the best out there and the returns this year are proving to be poor. Unbelievable but just so Flames.

Let's see how the rest of the forward trades go, if Tarasenko forced their hand to trade him to Florida it makes sense that the return was so minimal. Florida did really well here.

I'm curious what the Guentzel trade looks like, could reset the market a bit if it gets done before Friday. As others have said though, this Tarasenko trade makes Conroy's trades look very good by comparison, especially that Lindholm doozy.

Is it though?

Got ahead of the market and moved Toffoli before the season, Zadorov before Xmas, Lindholm a month before the deadline, and now have one player to go and a free option on the other (Markstrom).

Not sure there's much to navel gaze about.

The total return for the 5 UFAs moved will be pretty solid compared to what looks to be going down at the deadline.

I'd say the return is comparable to any other year. Any disappointment is simply coming from fans that have vastly overvalued players like Toffoli, Lindholm (who are both second liners at this point) and Zadorov (who is a 5/6 on a good team at best).

I don't know what to say to these people anymore.

Complete inability to look at the body of work as a whole and rather fixate on anything negative within grasp. The returns on all 4 trades I would say vary between good to very good.

Hanifin situation hasn't even resolved yet and folks are finding ways to complain.

That could turn out to be an all time worst trade in franchise history for the Canucks.
I assume because we got a haul for Lindholm is why he left it out and the other trades were received as more modest.

To me, he can go pound sand even if they are not playing against Oilers. I hope he never win a cup in Florida.

Can't say I've watched a lot of tarasenko lately and he really moves around, but this seems like Ottawa got fleeced. A couple later round picks and retaining salary? I don't get it.

Edit: Ok I see has a NMC so Ottawa's options were limited.

Nice acquisition by Florida. Everything going right for them might as well go for it.

Yeah, looks like I might be wrong in thinking this was a rental. He's confirmed that Florida was the only team he waived for, and talks about it being nice to be with his family again. (Good call on that, I didn't know they live there.)

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he signs a sweetheart extension in Florida or re-signs in Ottawa. He is good friends with the Tkachuk family and even just recently hired their uncle as his agent.
