Default Flames/Glencross looking at Extension

Quote:
Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions 10m
According to @BoomerAndRhett this am. Curtis Glencross says he and #Flames will talk contract extension soon. After Colborne is done.

Glencross on an extension: "I've talked to Brad a few times now. They want to get the ball rolling after Colborne's arbitration." #Flames
I'm sure this will anger some, but if you can get him a similar cheap deal its a steal for his production.

Good for him, he obviously loves playing in Calgary.

I'm all for the extension, as long as said extension doesnt have a NTC/NMC (yeah, I know it will). He fills a need for the team right now, he may not in a few years.

Good news. Can't have enough players that WANT to play in Calgary.

I actually don't mind this. I think he is the best middle 6, secondary scorer we have in our lineup. Hopefully it's only for 2 or 3 years, 4+ won't make me happy.

Rather not resign, younger players are ready to come up and fill those spots especially for the 2015/16 season. If we can trade him at deadline that would be preferred. (If he waves hic NTC).

if we can get him on a similar contract (which is an unreal contract for the numbers he puts up) get it done.

My guess is a 3 year, 3.5-4m contract.

With the likes of Gaudreau Baertschi Granlund Poirer Bennett all pushing for a spot, I do not think we need Glencross after this season...

Cheap deal? Good luck. The Flames swindled Glennie on his last deal and I'm sure he's been PO'ed that he's only getting $2.5M a year when he could be making double that.

He's going to be asking for $4M/yr easily

$4m a year would be a hometown discount.

Tyler Ennis just got over $4m on an RFA deal

I'd like to see which Glencross shows up this year before we extend him. If it's the disinterested floater we had before he got injured this year, then let him go.

If it's Scoreface, sure.

I love and hate Glencross. When he's interested, he's a feisty goal scoring and checking winger. When he's disinterested, he's a turnover machine who floats around.

If he does get an extension I want them to get rid of his NTC and pay him a little more. No sense in being too cheap when we have loads of cap space and no big RFAs coming up for quite a while.

Hold on a sec. How much leverage does he have to command alot more money?

He hasn't scored more than 40 points since the 2011-2012 season, and last season wasn't exactly a highlight reel year for him. He also is wildly inconsistent. Should Flames management be rewarding that?

The only way I can see he get's a relatively massive pay raise is if Burke/Treliving see him as a anchor on the left side with intangible qualities. Anything more than $4 million and I'm not sure there's much more benefit.

Also, an extension should be no longer than 3 years. Max.

I disagree unless you think there are other veterans who can replace him AND want to play in Calgary. Most of them are still too young in 2015/16, can't ice a team where our more skilled players (ie top 6 numbers) consist of only young players and the veterans are only face smashers playing 4-6 minutes a night. I still don't see us being competitive for the 2015/16 season either.

If we can get a similar deal it'd be amazing.

I sure hope the term is short and doesnt have a NTC. This guy will be in the pressbox by the time the extension runs out with all our young wingers coming up.

Personally, I think he's already on his way down production wise, his effort-level is consistently questioned, and he doesn't seem to be as much of a leader as guys like Gio or Cammy were/are.

On the plus side, he likes taking pony rides with Ken King.

If I'm the GM, I'm starting to look for an exit strategy that maximizes his diminishing value, not looking to keep him here long-term.

He should have been the perfect candidate for the trade at the deadline and re-sign here.

He obviously wants to stay in Alberta, and doesn't really want to leave.

We should be talking with him saying we will re-sign you in the off-season but let us try and get you a cup at the trade deadline.

Any thoughts if he doesn't resign with calgary, Edmonton may come calling due to his preference to stay close to home/the ranch? They had bad blood, but would he look past it to stay close to home?

That was his biggest reason for the NTC/NMC correct?

Re-sign all the guys that the Flames suck with! That will for sure turn us into a winner.
