I thought oduya was a solid d-man who would not have lasted this long on the FA market

Well delays aren't always because the players is undesirable. There's a bunch of factors involved in deciding where you will go, especially for older players with families.

He's lost his legs and nothing more than a bottom pairing guy at this point.

He's still averaging 18 minutes a game over the last number of years after dropping down from 20 minutes probably 4 years ago. I think this is a good signing for a number 4.

So the Sens replaced one bottom-pairing former Star defenseman (Jokipakka) with another (Oduya), after losing a top-pairing defenseman to the Stars (Methot).

The only way he's a #4 is if he puts it on the back of his jersey

This is an okay signing but Oduya must be acknowledged for what he now is, which is a guy who is getting old AND his game is in significant decline.

He would get exposed pretty badly if he regularly played anything but 5th or 6th D-pairing minutes because of his deteriorating game & declining footspeed.

He's not a number 4 defenceman anymore. 2 or 3 years ago he was, but not now.
