Default Blues 5 Flames 3

Blues 5 Flames 3

- Flames pour it on in third but St. Louis breaks the tie for the win
- Calgary's third feature two posts and two disallowed goals
- Two from Kuzmenko

If the expected goals were about 2.50 to 4.00, why did the Flames deserve a better result?

You didn't find their third period somewhat impressive?

Tie game coming into the third and Calgary is clearly the better team in the final 20.

Position projections ...

Playoffs:

LA on a 99 point pace. Max Flames points at 91.

10th Spot:

Seattle (10th draft spot) on a 83 point pace. Flames need to go 5-4-1 to have 82 points.

No longer need to be sub .500 to draft top 10.

I was watching the Blues' feed and they had an angle that appeared to show Kuzmenko being the player with the high-stick on the called off goal. Though, it didn't look high, either.

I was also watching that feed and I agree with you.

The correct way for the ref to handle that situation was to let the play proceed, and then review it. But by blowing the whistle and calling it a high stick, he eliminated the opportunity to get it right.

Whether Kuzmenko actually high sticked it or not (looked like not), is somewhat irrelevant. I mean, it's relevant to the game, obviously. But it isn't relevant with respect to whether or not the ref handled it properly. He did not.

Just like the kid going down the escalator wearing a Flames hat at the 2:15 mark of that video.

I hate the losses but I am getting excited about a top 10 pick.

I'm happy that it's 5 straight losses, but all of them somewhat entertaining.

Team isn't rolling over at all.

They are thinner on the blueline and give up more.
They're as thin as they've always been up front and can't finish.

I thought Miromanov looked unusually slow at times last night compared to his other viewings. Had me guessing he was under the weather a bit. Could be I was overthinking it, too.

Yeah they are not rolling over, it doesn’t feel like a death March when you watch the games. Gotta be tough though for the veterans like Coleman who are used to ramping up their play at this time of year.

Noticed that too. I think on a couple of them though, he was caught flat-footed. Likely a combination of things, because I think his skating is much better than what we saw last night.

He still is far too direct with his puck movement.

Needs to add some speed in decision making and some deception in looking people off before slinging it.

Coleman was a little slack the last couple games, especially when they fell behind. It's tough being motivated after a lot of success and knowing this year is just one to file away.

I think he’s just slow. He’s a pretty slow decision maker as well. Telegraphs passes at times. At least he did when he first showed up.

You have to wonder how many of the vets are going to want to know what the go forward plan is heading into the offseason. If it’s to strive to be the worst team in the league for a number of seasons I’m wondering how many of them will ask for trades.

One more thing about the Blues' feed, they had terrible views of the offside call that reversed the Flames' goal; did they get the call correct?

It just shows that they were exceptionally lucky in the first two periods to be tied.

I tend to judge a game based on 60 minutes. You can’t simply say they deserved a better fate because they had a good third period.
