NHL Scouting Staff Size
Thought it was an interesting chart by @CudmoreColin: Flames have one of the largest scouting staffs in the league. Their amateur scouting department is tied for 3rd.
Wish teams released how much they spend on scouting.
And the Ducks being able to draft as well as they do with so few scouts is amazing

Amazing that Chicago and the Rangers have such huge scouting staffs when they very rarely pick in the first round.

Actually that makes total sense.

I'm shocked Edmonton has more than one scout. Don't they just look at the consensus number 1 overall and make their selection?

This is really interesting - thanks!
I imagine one important aspect to scouting that isn't measured by number of eyeballs is breadth and depth of the organizations network. Calling up a coach of a random team in Finland and saying, "what do you honstely think about this player, what are is off ice habits like, how dedicated is, how is he in the dressing room etc" or "who is a dark horse on your team we should take a closer look at?"

It would be interesting to see how size of amateur scouting staff correlates to number of supposed "off the board" draft picks.

Match this up to the previous report/ranking of farm teams
I bet there are some obvious correlations.

Washington's success seems to stem from not being afraid to draft Russians. No surprise with Winnipeg as they need to depend on the draft more than maybe any other team. The Ducks need to give their scouts raises as no team is doing more with less.

I see almost no correlation between draft success and the number of scouts.

Maybe Anaheim is a testament to having the right eyes as opposed to many eyes.

One thing that catches my eye is that Buffalo and the Islanders definitely need to spend some more money on scouting.

Anaheim Nashville Ottawa and Tampa having such small staffs yet drafting so many nhlers is impressive. And irritating.

No point hiring scouts if you let the owner make the pick
Although I'm guessing that philosophy is unfortunately no longer possible under Chia. MacTavish was a joke of a GM enough to let the owner push him around.

Chicago having so many pro scouts is weird to me. Like how hard is it to keep tabs on Saad and Sharp? (Being a bit facetious here.)

Wonder how accurate this info is. Flames webpage, for example, lists 18 names. Until recent, it generally contained horribly outdated info.

Pro might include Europe. They sign about 9 Euro free agents every year

pro scouts work to scout opposition throughout the season. advising on trades would be the smaller side of the job i would think.
