I thought he signed a 3 year deal in Nashville.

But... I get the impression from your posts in this thread as knowing exactly what pot you are stirring and worded the thread accordingly..
CFF is simply saying there is no news here and whats the point of even entertaining the possibility of Johnny moving on since hes not going anywhere for at least 5 years. Which makes more sense than to sit here and have a discussion that isn't even in the realm of possible at this moment.
Your "sharing information" is an attempt to fear monger and nothing more.
This board has a huge range of hockey knowledge and those who have more limited information, knowledge or access may take this information and be quite upset, which is not fair and simply irresponsible "sharing" by you, the OP.
If it were geared towards a Johnny being classy piece, and not taken out of context and twisted into something its not, I don't think anyone would have an issue with discussing this.
Lock it up!... I say anyway..

I wish Johnny's cousin posted here to give us some insight...

That is probably true. It is a good thing that the Flames look well poised to have some success over the next five years.

Since sportsnet picked up this story I have been trolled by a few Oilers fans.
Part of me feels there are 4 years left with Johnny and at that time the team could consider moving him but I have never been a believer of Johnny staying here past his second contract which is why I was not pleased with the 6 years

Ya something about him gave me the same vibe. This isn't "chicken little" crap but I always thought a pure hockey trade involving him could happen at some point like Johansen for Jones or subban for webber. On the other hand I hope he turns as elite as Patrick Kane and decides to stay as one of the faces of this franchise. That ego stuff really plays on hockey players to be "the guy" and have a whole city love you (even if it's not your home town, ex iggy).

I really hope we don't end up chasing this guy out of town one day due to a classic Canadian inferiority complex when it comes to Americans.
EDIT: Before the lottery draft, Connor McDavid mentioned a few times how he'd love to play with the Leafs. Are Oilers fans convinced he'll bolt to Toronto once his contract is done? Why are we always so much more worried about this factor when player in question has a U.S. passport?

Well, that settles it. If Oilers fans feel this strongly then it is as good as done.

I think it is foolish to draw conclusions and make projections about Gaudreau's future five years in advance of his next contract. Five years ago the NHL had just signed off on a new CBA and Gaudreau had just completed his freshman year at BC. There were probably more observers at the time who believed he would never play in the NHL than those who thought he could be a top six forward in the best league in the world.
There is way too much that could potentially happen in the course of five years to make this a nonsensical discussion. What will change with the current team after that point? The League? How much will Gaudreau's own personal life change in five years? How many of us were the same people at 29-years-old as we were at 24?

There are so many things that can happen between now and when his contract is up. Both on the ice and off.
Every year he's been here he's become more enamoured with the organization, city and fan base for how he's been treated, and he speaks about that at length. But do those comments get their own thread? No. A softball "hockey answer" quote taken in his hometown does.
He already loves the team and his teammates and some success in the next few years could very well have him wanting to extend here. As could him starting a family.
It very much *is* chicken little crap to pick up on a self perceived "vibe" that isn't there. This couldn't be more much ado about nothing.

That will be fine that we trade him in the last year of his contract and we will get flyers good young players in return. They do have Nolan Patrick. If we are going to loose home anyway

It's kind of like when I am in the park going for a walk with the girlfriend and her silly little dog. Then a super curvy girl in lululemon's walks by. I get asked..."Do you think she looks good?"

Except, in this case, the Flames are the super curvy girl because we actually made the playoffs last season.

People read to much into the whole "wanna play in his hometown" thing.
As many if you have stated, chances of a player starting a family in their mid to late 20's are pretty high, and then his hometown isn't important anymore. It's his wife and children's hometown that becomes more important to a player.
