Every member of the GOP in Congress has to be overjoyed that it didn't pass by one vote, or in 2018 we'd be seeing every single one of those who voted yes being hit with ads in their district blaming them as casting the singular vote to take your health care away. Predictably it's already looking dead in the Senate so much like "Mission Accomplished", the GOP is once again acting like they've won far before this is over. Dems have been handed every break they need to flip the tables in both houses, now they just gotta make it happen which is always easier said than done with them.

History doesn't reward political victories, it rewards improvements in the human condition.
The health care bill that the Republicans have just rammed through the House of Representatives is all about optics. It's all about a political "win" for the President and his party. It's all about serving the base.
But what about what it means for millions of Americans? What does it mean for a young mother facing a cancer diagnosis and worrying about the future of her young child? What does it mean for an HIV patient worrying about losing a job and the cost of his pre-exisiting condition? What does it mean for a family facing sickness, and bankruptcy?
What will this bill mean for all of these people, and countless more? We don't know. No one really knows. We are in a rush without reason. A major piece of legislation is being crammed through before it is even analyzed and vetted. Of course our current system isn't perfect - far from it. Of course the Affordable Care Act needs revisions. Who gets something that big right the first time? But instead of progress and thought, we get chaos and grandstanding.
There will be no end to the speculation of how this will affect the political fortunes of the two major parties. And on that front, frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. I worry for my fellow citizens for whom the burden of health will now be compounded by the burden of injustice.
Of all the over the top sarcastic things posted in this thread, this has to be up there with the most absurdly and outrageously offensive. Seriously Ozy, you make a lot of good posts but let's get real here. Do you really think Trump would do something as irresponsible as that? Trump wouldn't give the family of a child with cancer a bible, he would SELL them one that was made in a foreign country, then accuse the parents of ruining America for not buying domestic products, while patting himself on the back for creating jobs selling bibles and making tombstones. Live in the now and stop letting fake news cloud your judgement.

So if you've had a baby and want insurance you automatically have to pay $17 000?

Nothing like GOP logic. The "pro-life" party of "family values."
Only they don't want you to have access to contraception to avoid unwanted pregnancies, because abortion is sin. But they also don't want you to have time off of work to deal with that pregnancy, nor for the birth of the baby, nor for the crucial early months of said baby's life. They also don't think insurance needs to pay for your baby's birth, especially if there are complications or you need a c-section. Also they don't want to make insurance companies take care of any congenital diseases your baby might be born with. And even if you have a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby, you'd better hope you don't get postpartum depression, because they don't think insurance should cover that either.
I can't imagine why people suggest that Republicans are waging a "war on women."

If the Democrats were smart, they'd quit trying to save the ACA and go all in on the single payer system. Obamacare is only a thing because they hoped the R's would like it. They don't. Neither do Dems.
The US already spends 17% of its GDP on healthcare. Universal single payer would drive costs through the goddamn floor.
But they're pussies so they probably won't do that.
Some of President Trump's proposed spending cuts would cripple programs that benefit communities full of his rural supporters, but at least in Strong City, Kan., some say they are ready "to bleed a little bit."
But for all the anger and anxiety over possible budget cuts in policy circles, in Strong City, quite a few people actually embrace those cuts.
"They've got to make cuts somewhere. Somebody's going to get cut, somebody's going to bleed a little bit. That's just a fact of life, but to get things back into balance," says Jim Fritch, who works at Clark's Farm and Home Store.
Jim Fink runs the store, and he agrees. Both Fritch and Fink voted for Trump.
"If you ask me would I rather see the money go for our water plant, or to possibly try to control our borders and the security of our nation, the security of our nation is more important to me," Fink says.
