Default The Defiant Ones (HBO)

HBO mini series documentary about Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. Watching episode 2 and its been decent so far. There doesn't seem to be many rap or hip hop fans on CP, but I know there are some, and I'd recommend it to Dre and hip hop fans!

They've started talking a bit about NWA now and i know they'll eventually get into Deathrow and Eminem.

I've been singing its praises in the TV thread.

I loved the first 3. Episode 4 was a letdown though. It was basically an hour long Beats commercial and they didn't talk about the Monster vs Iovine/Dre situation at all.

I started watching this last night and got through the first 2 episodes. Pretty decent so far. I'm looking foward to the Death Row days in part 3. I really like some of the old footage they were able to get of Iovine and Dre. Anyone else here think that if they made this into a movie, Michael Imperioli would be a dead ringer for early-era Iovine?

I'll binge check it out when all the episodes are out. Any idea of how many there are and how long each runs for?

There's only 4. Each one was about an hour, but I think episode 3 was almost 90 mins.

I finished it last night and overall it was pretty good. Episode 3 was my favourite one but they were all worth watching. Highly recommend this to any music fan, especially if you were a fan of 90's era west coast rap.

^^^^ Great stuff. That entire Source Awards had some pretty amazing performances from Death Row, Bad Boy, Wu Tang etc.

Another one of my favourite clips from the doc was the Soul Train awards where they came out onstage in the lowrider. I remember being 14 years old and completely bugging out when I saw that.

I liked all of it. Crazy how many great artists and records Iovine was involved with when he was just starting out. Some real iconic songs. Wish they would have spent a little less time on the Beats stuff, but whatever. Really enjoyed all 4 episodes.
