Watching Hertl in this San Jose game, Drasaitl is about the same size. Even against the Kings you can see he's a pretty big guy.

I didn't realize Hertl was that size. That hurts.
Really really need Jankowski to pan out. I'm cautiously optimistic...somewhere along the highway..

Hertl has been great, but I don't think anyone was clamouring for the Flames to pick Hertl back in 2012. In fact, I think CP would have exploded if he were picked before Teravainen, Maata, Ceci, even Collberg, etc.
That retrospective eye sight, sure is strong.

I have this gut feeling that Sam Bennett will be a Calgary Flame come draft day.

And Burke better give him #93 regardless of his belief in low numbers.

I'd be more on board with 39 personally.
However, that still doesn't fit the box mold. To tell you the truth to heck with what I just said if Sam Bennett has a Flaming C on his chest that's all I care about I could care less what number it is.... 93, 39, 9939, 3.

Montreal would have to do a decimal system if they went to a #1-35 number system that Burke wants to do that...
"Scored by #18.75! What a pass by #9.82."
"We are now retiring #7.56"
On the bright side, the possibilities would be endless.

But then why set such situations into this context? Once players have been drafted, their original draft rankings and their order of pick is pretty meaningless (or it should be). This happens regularly for every organisation, and I'm fairly certain that if Hertl turns out as good as he appears after this season, there will be LOTS of teams who will be left looking "really dumb". But this is a fan perception, which is completely meaningless to the performance of the team. I expect that NHL teams don't pine over the good performance of other teams' picks relative to their own, and after the draft. Some picks pan out, but most don't. There is a much better chance of picking good NHL players in round 1, but there are still high picks from every single draft and in every single organisation that has failed to live up to his draft billing, or his draft number. In the end, this is a silly thing about which to get ones self worked up.

It was meant from a fans perspective, not the Flames 'pining over' what could've been. Not worked up, but am really hoping he turns out.

Just something I observed, but it seems like it's always the same people who do get a bit 'worked up' about Jankowski along with anything that Feaster has done.

Of course. We are all hoping that Jankowski turns out. I just don't see what his development has to do with Hertl's current success, or with whom the Flames select in the next draft. One could argue that if he doesn't succeed to become a NHL player, then this will present a set back for the organisation. I'm not sure I would agree, since there are likely to also be a few surprises from later rounds who will become NHL players. I guess my point is that so long as the team is competent, these things will tend to even themselves out in the end.

Poor drafting has a negative effect on the team period, especially when you go off the board to do it.
