Source: Brian Burke joining Calgary Flames
Quote:
A reliable source tells CTV Calgary Wednesday night that former Toronto Maple Leafs president and GM Brian Burke is joining the Calgary Flames organization.
What role the 58-year-old will assume in Calgary has not been announced. The social media site Twitter lit up Wednesday afternoon with tweets circulating that Burke could be joining the Calgary Flames and that he was expected in Calgary that evening.

Sportsnet Connected started the show with the rumor of Burke coming to Calgary. Said nothing official as of yet.

Since this is the new thread ( it was disscussed for hours in Shanny thread) i will post on this thread:
If true, how long until Feaster is fired?
My guess he is let go by Olympic break. I saw Burke on TV months ago and he said he wanted a GM job. He also said that he wants to build a team, not look after the business side. If true Feaster is a sitting duck.
Still wish he had been hired before the trade deadline. I have no doubt in my mind that he would have gotten more for JBO. Not sure about Iggy trade since Edwards pretty much let Iggy drive the bus on that trade. We were lucky to get a 1st after he said he would only go to Pitt.

If/When this happens, I know that the Calgary Flames won't be pushed around anymore. And that can only be a good thing.

Hope its true. My biggest knock on Feaster is he isn't a "hockey mind" and doesn't have the greatest track record. Whether Burke is a president or GM, he's going to have at least some say in hockey decisions and whether you like him or not, he's done a pretty good job in other stops (minus Kessel trade).

I'm 6'3, midget.
You'd be the dainty girl in our relationship. How does that make you feel?

Roger Millions tweeted earlier in the summer that Burke wanted to come back as a GM if he came back at all.
Having him here in any capacity would make my summer, Flames-wise. Would be a massive, bold move.
The organization is quickly turning into a joke in league circles, with some of the moves it's made, and the blurring of the hierarchy and decision makers, both of which were exposed pretty blatantly last year.
I think the owners, especially Edwards (hoping to nudge his way into the higher echelon of league circles personally) realize this, and having a no nonsense guy who's not afraid to speak out and make those bold decisions on and off the ice, with a proven track record, to give a clear sign that the Flames are going to be back to respectability sooner than later. More importantly, gone will be the spin, BS and double talk that the current regime is trying to shove to fans.
All that said, this is still anywhere close to even serious consideration, so not getting too excited about it...no offense to Campbell, but don't recall him breaking any Flames news, certainly over the eastern guys, and some of the guys closer to the Flames.

Take this for what it's worth - As per my buddy who is neighbors with a staff member of the Flames Ken King was boxing up his office today. King is apparently staying with the Flames in a different capacity. The staff member couldn't/wouldn't confirm if Burke was taking over the President/CEO role or not.

If this is true, my guess is the deck chairs get shuffled with Burke becoming GM, Feaster promoted, and King retaining the title of President.

I just wish he'd be Ken Kings boss, sadly it'd likely be the other way around.
