Iginla vs. Iginla
Hey all,
Just wanted to share a link to an article I came across while browsing NHL.com. Focuses mostly on how Iginla's doing this year in Boston compared to last year in Pittsburgh. Didn't see it posted anywhere here...thought it might be an interesting read for those still keeping tabs on him.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=6...d=nhl:topheads
Quote:
While the Pittsburgh Penguins will get a taste of what they once had Wednesday night at Consol Energy Center, the Boston Bruins will get a chance to showcase what they do have now.
Jarome Iginla.
The Penguins won the Iginla trade sweepstakes last season as the former Calgary Flames captain was more enticed about the opportunity to play with Sidney Crosby than he was with David Krejci. Iginla famously invoked the clause in his contract that allowed him to choose where he would be traded and he spurned the Bruins for a shot at winning the Stanley Cup with the Penguins.
That part obviously didn't work out.
...
Iginla's production through 10 games this season is similar to what he gave the Penguins last season. He has eight points on two goals and six assists. He seems comfortable and is developing chemistry with Krejci and Milan Lucic, who played the past several seasons with Nathan Horton.
"I think it's fairly obvious that he's a consistent player," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "When you look at his first 10 games, you see him every game. You know we liked [Horton] and he's a highly skilled player, but we also know that he had his fair share of ups and downs. Some games he'd be really good, some other games he wouldn't have much of an impact. We're getting consistency out of Jarome."

I'd rather have Bartkowski and Koko than Hanowski and Agostino.

It's funny , last year I thought I would be following Iginla in the Bruins a lot more closely. But Monahan's development is more interesting

Bartkowski is pretty meh, and so far Hanowski is outscoring Khokhlachev in the AHL. Agostino is off to a slow start (only 2 games in so far, no pts) but could likely be the best of the bunch. I think the two packages were about even (not factoring in the difference between where the 1sts ended up).

The exchange is Bartkowski, Koko, and maybe Klimchuk (if Iginla re-signed) against Hanowski, Agostino, and Klimchuk, no?

The first was not conditional in the Boston deal.

Ah. For some reason, I thought it was. Maybe I mistook it with another deal?

Yea, I am 99% sure Peter Chiarelli said there was no condition on the 1st in the Iginla deal.
Maybe you're thinking of Boston's eventual deal that come that Jagr which was a conditional 1st?

Well it would have been 1 place lower so 29th instead of 28th.

Chiarelli was actually very careful about phrasing it as a "guaranteed 1st", not an unconditional one. That led to a lot of speculation about whether there were conditions that could make it a 2014 1st (kind of like the Kaberle trade).

I doubt it would have been to delay it for a year. Feaster wouldn't wait a year and he wanted the Bruins trade, especially when it was for Iginla and not Bouwmeester. He would have been lynched.

I thought he was described as Butler 2.0. Can you imagine having two Butlers in the line up? The CP meltdown would be epic.

Public opinion on this forum last year was split on whether to trade him or keep him / resign him.
Now people who wanted him to stay realize the error in their judgement.
Not a peep out of the Iggy fanboys.
Overrated Player. But a nice guy.
Glad we have Monahan and a more balanced Forward roster.

I'd loved to have kept him. Mark me down as that and still do.
I wouldn't have wanted to sign him to the amount that Boston did, rather a 3-4 year deal that would pay him at an average salary and cap hit for a second line player, say $4 mill per season. Similar to Alfredsson.
I have no problem saying that I want my young prospects learning how to compete, learning how to prepare off ice, and learning how to be a professional from the most consistent goal scorer since the year 2000.

Overrated? Really?
I understand you might not like him, and he was probably held onto for a year or 2 too long. Yet he was one of the most consistent goal scorers in the NHL, a future hall of famer, carried a team on his back for the majority of his career, etc.
Overrated he's not. He was maybe overvalued on here by some just before he was traded, but overrated, no, Iggy is a great player.

I don't know how you call a first ballot hall of famer overrated. I would have liked to see Iginla re-sign with Calgary and mentor the kids. Right now he can still score, but if his production goes down, I'd like to see him take a Yzerman role.
