Just spoke to him. He's currently in town, working out hard at his dad's facility. He really wants to play in the A but, if not, there may be an opportunity in Europe.

Adirondack signed a guy named Gunnar Hughes today http://www.eurohockey.com/player/505...ar-hughes.html

Riveting news, I know.

Just thought I would throw it out there.

It appears the Thunder are not only Calgary's ECHL team, but also affiliated with the Devils.

They aren't. Devils have no ECHL affiliate. They reached an agreement with Calgary to assign 1 player to Adirondack.

Thunder start the season a perfect 4-0.

A big reason why?

Louick Marcotte.
4gp 5g 2a 7pts +4 9sog

Marcotte leads the team in scoring. 7th in ECHL scoring and leads all rookies in the ECHL. Not bad for a 20 year old.

Small sample size, but kid may be showing he is too good for the ECHL and force his way onto Stockton.

If his offense can translate into the AHL, he may earn himself a NHL contract.

Today, the Thunder played one of those afternoon games for school kids that they do in the AHL and ECHL, in Kalamazoo.

The Thunder trailed 2-0 with just over a minute left in the third. Two goals in the final 1:03 to tie it and the OT winner at 2:12 gave the Thunder the win.

Adirondack is now 7-0 to start the season.

Top scorer for the Thunder and the ECHL, Rob Bordson (7gp 7g 6a 13pts +6), has joined the AHL's Providence Bruins.

Apparently the streak came to an end with a 4-2 loss in Cincinnati tonight

Listening to the Heat game tonight they mentioned "flames prospect" Michael Kirkpatrick scored for the thunder tonight, he leads the team in scoring in his first pro year after finishing 4 years of school. Is he actually Flames property?

He was passed over in the draft due to size issues, but he is very talented and hopefully he gets an NHL cup of coffee some day.

Reason I ask is I know his dad and his late grandfather was my doctor growing up, he actually delivered me.

He's signed to an AHL contract

Does anyone know why Ryan Culkin is in the ECHL after posting 18 points in 37 GP in the AHL last year. By all accounts - it seemed like he was doing quite well in the A? Was it his injury, defensive depth on Stockton, or has his play fallen off? Maybe a combination?

Depth, theres just not enough spots available in Stockton and Culkin needs to play top pair minutes.

What's up with his play down there anyways? His stats are worse than they were in the AHL.

The team has had 3 shutout victories in a row. Longest in ECHL history.
Kent Simpson had two of those shutouts. I guess it's nice to see him having some success down there.

Sure would be nice to get some insight on Culkin's play with the Thunder.

He had 6 assists in his first 11 games down there, but only has 2 assists in the 21 games since. I figured a mobile puck moving D man like him would put up better numbers than that.

Hard to say if those numbers are overly concerning when you never see him play, or hear opinions from someone who does see him play.

Glens Falls, NY –The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, have signed goaltender Garrett Bartus. Bartus joins the Thunder following the recall of Kent Simpson to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

Bartus, 26, comes to the Thunder for his sixth career ECHL stop following previous appearances with Greenville, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Kalamazoo and Cincinnati. Bartus has amassed an 11-10-6 record in 30 career ECHL appearances, coupled with a 3.31 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. Bartus has also appeared in one ECHL playoff contest with Greenville in 2013. The St. Charles, IL native joins Adirondack after 32 games with the Macon Mayhem of the SPHL in 2015-16, where he leads the league in games played and saves (1015). Bartus has compiled a .929 save percentage and a 2.40 goals against average with the Mayhem this season.

Simpson, 23, has appeared in 13 games with the Thunder and has put together a 7-4-2 record, a .926 save percentage and a 2.38 goals against average. Simpson is currently tied for second in the ECHL with three shutouts and was a part of the Thunder’s record setting ECHL shutout streak of 251:51 in mid-January. The Edmonton, ALTA native has appeared in seven AHL contests with Stockton so far this season, where he has amassed a .847 save percentage and a 3.91 goals against average.

Just out of curiosity, how come none of our younger prospects are playing on the Thunder for current playoff run?

Is there some detail in their contracts that does not allow them to play in the ECHL just for the playoffs? Or is the quality of hockey not good for their development?
