Burke would be a PERFECT gm for the Flames. Others can bitch all they want, but the guy maximizes value for players on every deal. Certainly the Kessel deal is a controversial one, but he got great value for almost every other deal he made. Imagine what the guy could get for Iggy or Kiprusoff? I wasn't a fan of his Vancouver moves, but the guy showed that he can create something out of nothing with maximizing value in deals. Plus, he likes hardnose players like the Flames do, which should fit in with the organization philosophy. Feaster really screwed this up, and whether his staff didn't understand is BS. He's practically the CEO of the organization with King. Both deserve to go, or get a demotion. Bring in Burke.
I think Burke is over rated still he'd be better than Feaster.
I would think Burke would want the President and GM jobs, so that would be good getting rid of King.
I don't think Sutter had free reign to do what he wanted, at least not according to Keenan and Feaster probably has less control.
No thanks. Statistical evaluation is the way forward and having a traditionalist run the club(read his comments from last night) is absolutely not ok. Toronto does look much better this year, but I think that has more to do with Randy Carlyle.
He missed on Kessel, his Phaneuf acquisition was good asset value at the time but not now, he failed to find a goalie, and none of his draft picks have panned out(although Kadri has a chance and Reilly looks good).

Pass.
How can you put that much stock in Carlyle when he didn't put the team on the ice? Hockey isn't much of an X's and O's game. A coach can definitely screw up the team, but I don't put much stock in them being completely successful because of their coach.
Secondly, he didn't completely miss on Kessel. It was a good move at the time where most didn't see them doing that bad the following year, and it turned out to be a high pick going the other way. Arguably a bad deal, but not terrible considering Kessel is still a very good player. More of a deal that they probably wouldn't do if they could have told the future.
Phaneuf that got for a song. He may not really be worth the dollar value on the contract, but he made a deal for crazy cheap and then some. Drafting, I'll completely agree he and his staff were behind on, but if you actually go player by player on every move he made, he really got great value for almost every player he dealt away. While his attitude to the media and how he comes across may seem traditional, he's actually a very intelligent guy. These days, no teams are run the traditional way. Listen to some of his interviews:

Reason: finally!
2nd worst team in the League, 9th worst Team in the League, 5th worst team in the league... yeah, he sure did a good job.
The results obviously weren't there yet, but the Leafs were better when he left than when he started, which is something I'm not sure anyone can say about Feaster.
He made some bad signings/trades in his first year, but seemed to change his philosophy in the last two years when he acquired Phaneuf, Gardiner, Lupul, Ashton, Colborne, and multiple high draft picks in exchange for veterans, who now mostly have little value.
DO NOT WANT BRIAN BURKE, there are many other quality candidates out there.
Wouldn't mind a list of other candidates if anybody is up to it?
I'm not sure i want a rookie GM right now. Before Feaster was hired i thought new blood would be good, now i am not so sure. I don't want a GM that needs to lean on KK or ownership for help considering his first order of business might be having to trade the franchise player.
