Seth's last show so I'm surprised he let it be so bad. Might be the seasons worst.

As a parody of awful Broadway musicals, the opening was spot-on. The Fox personalities did not work so well.

McCarthy can make me laugh even when a sketch is failing.

Yeah, that was a horrible show. I didn't see the point of most of the sketches. The game show one was especially painful. Same with the "living arts exhibit."

I didn't mind the digital short.

I laughed pretty hard during the black history month sketch.

That's one of the first times where there weren't even pity laughs. There were large portions of skits where there was no audience laughter at all. Just silence. That was tough. Maybe they just relied too much on McCarthy to carry terrible sketches into funny territory, but it fell flat. Too bad. I still think she's hilarious though.

The Black History month song was really good. I didn't mind the drug store valentine's day commercial. I loved Aidy's line, "you've hurt me today." She's great. I liked Stefan in Weekend Update. "Don't let my man's name fall out your mouth." I was crying.

....But the rest was just uncomfortable.

I quite enjoy McCarthy, but I've found a lot of her characters are the same. Much like Will Ferrell. The skits at the beginning were great, but as it kept going each character kinda seemed like the last and they were far less funny.

Of course, the weaker skits are generally at the end of the show, so that could be part of it too.

For Seth Meyers – who left “SNL” last night after nearly 13 seasons (we wrote a more thorough goodbye post to him, with the help of some current and former cast members, here) – there was no Billy Joel song and there was no Mick Jagger (though, there was Stefon). Meyers had a quieter, more direct sendoff. There were no special sketches -- just an announcement at the end of “Weekend Update” as his friends Amy Poehler, Bill Hader (as Stefon), Andy Samberg and Fred Armisen (as David Patterson) joined him onstage as he said his goodbyes. Which for Meyers – always gracious and always understated – was fitting.

Melissa McCarthy brought a frenzied energy to the show – but that energy seemed to deflate after “Update,” which isn’t terribly surprising.

Sketch of the Night
”Weekend Update” (Meyers, Strong, Killam, Hader, Poehler, Samberg, Armisen) From a purely technical standpoint, this might have been one of the weaker efforts of the Meyers-Strong era. A lot of the jokes fell flat (though, Meyers’ delivery on a joke about a Google Glass redesign, “You don’t want to look nerdy … when you’re wearing a computer on your face,” should be taught in “Why Seth Meyers Is Good At His Job 101”) and even the always reliable Taran Killam couldn’t gain too much traction with his beleaguered Southerner who doesn’t understand snow.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter. By the end, when Poehler, Hader and Samberg joined Meyers behind the desk, this became a deserved celebration of Meyers’ 13 seasons. I was a little surprised that Hader showed up as Stefon, just because Stefon’s sendoff last season was just so perfect. But, Meyers and Stefon are forever linked and it would have been even more odd not to see him on Meyers’ last show.

It was classy sendoff for someone who is, by all accounts, a classy guy.

It used to be you could count on SNL to bring us alternating pop acts and cutting edge music acts. Now we get pop acts alternating with limp middle of the road bands.

Beck will serve as musical guest.

It'll be interesting to see if parsons actually has range. Prediction: he doesn't.

He's done a lot of broadway so I think he should be good in that format, the hosts that struggle usually aren't used to live audience and/or stage acting
