Flames Flames 2014 Training camp - rookies report Sept 11, main camp opens Sept 18

Dates are as per this Kanzig article:
http://www.athabascaadvocate.com/art...mes-nhl-lineup

It appears the Flames have invited LW Brendan Bell and D Jason Fram to their training camp. Both have attended the most recent Flames development camp.

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=95230
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=102383

Jason Fram has already been confirmed by Treliving will be attending the training camp at the end of development camp.

Brendan Bell info comes off nhl.com, which is not always 100% reliable, but it lists both Bell and Fram as part of the Flames organization. Nhl.com appears to be listing players on try outs when you check other teams too.

Didn't realize Bell was the 67's captain last year. Interesting.

Brendan Bell was noticeably good at the development camp.

He was at development camp? Weird. I don't remember seeing his name.

Same, I do recall Fram turning a lot of heads amongst the fans though

Looks like the Flames have also invited G Matthew Mancina
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=188188

an article on him:
http://www.intheoradio.com/imported-...t-profile.html

Mancina did not attend Flames development camp, he did attend the Leafs one though

Also Carter Bancks maybe coming to training camp (although I have a few doubts on that)

man i can't wait for september.... Since moving, i spend a fair bit more time in my car, and end up switching between sports radio here in Toronto. I don't think i can listen to anymore baseball/bluejay talk, it's so boring.

Can't wait for NFL/NHL talk soon.

I think Bancks is still our RFA, I remember hearing under the new CBA that teams maintain rights for 2 years for RFAs that received qualifying offers but did not sign. Bancks received a QO offer in 2013, so if if I am correct and he wants to attend an NHL camp it would need to be ours.

I don't think the Flames qualified Bancks in 2013. I think they signed him to an AHL only contract. If he is attending I think it is on a tryout basis. I could be wrong. But why would Bancks refuse an NHL QO and then sign an AHL deal? Doesn't make sense.

Personally I think the Flames need to move on. But they are losing Street, Billins, Smith, Nemisz, Breen, etc. So maybe they think they need his leadership on the AHL team.

Yeah, they are losing pretty much all of their leadership. It's a big concern IMO, and I would gladly welcome Bancks back.

According to TSN, the Flames did make a QO in 2013. Bancks turned it down and signed an AHL deal.

Yes, the Flames qualified Bancks.

http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=676231

A qualifying offer is just to retain a players rights, like the Flames giving Billins a QO despite already signing in Russia. Bancks did not accept the qualifying offer and then later agreed to an AHL only deal, likely at larger AHL dollars than his qualifying offer.

IIRC he wasn't qualified but was instead signed to an AHL deal. Or maybe he was... don't know if the AHL deal changes anything. I hope it does because I just don't see a spot for Bancks on the Flames or the baby Flames and if he can get an opportunity elsewhere I'd hate for the Flames to deny it.

I do recall this being the case. He knew how far down the depth chart he was so just wanted an AHL deal for bigger dollars. I think he ended up making 20-30k more because of it.

the 2 posts above your post have links to 2 separate sources showing he was given a qualifying offer. What deal he signed is irrelevant, he received a qualifying offer, thus the Flames maintain his rights until he signs or for 2 years, whatever comes first.

He would be allowed to sign an AHL deal with any AHL club though.

Strange that he didn't accept it. Especially given the opportunities on the Flames and the fact he got a couple of games the season before. But as you say, the AHL deal must have came with a higher dollar amount.

IIRC him and Begin got the same AHL deals in the range of $250,000-350,000, I can't remember the exact number.
