If that's the case (that the Jackets would match any offer up to north of 7M) then their (CBJ) current posture is silly. If they're willing to pay him north of 7M per on an offer sheet then they should be willing to pay more then 3M on a SPC.

I think if I were a contending team that had the cap space (and all my own draft picks for rounds 1-3) I'd throw him an offer sheet. He's probably better then whoever I'd draft at those lower slots. Of course You'll have a hard time finding a contending team with both all their own draft picks and the cap space.

Isn't Johansen asking $6.5 on a two year bridge contract though? Everyone knows Columbus isn't going to agree to that.

Columbus's 8X5.75 is not a lowball by any means. If they can't get something done in that range, I think Ryan is asking for crazy pay.

My bet is that either he signs the offer from CBJ as was previously presented or he fires his agent and then signs it. Either way it happens within a week.

I would give up a lot to get Johansen. I would lock him up long-term if I were Columbus, he's going to be a franchise player for them IMO and they've had a lot of trouble keeping talent. They'll have to overpay now to do it but I think it will be worth it in the long run. If they want a package of prospects and vets for him I'd love to see the Flames acquire him and lock him up long-term for $5-6M.

He's proven he can score 30+ goals, but I agree, he should sign a 4.5 or so bridge deal, not sure if Columbus is offering that though.

David Moss scored 20+ one year as well. It doesn't entitle you to getting such a ridiculous contract. If he were smart he'd take less money over the short term and prove his value as a player. If he continues to score 30+ and turns into a franchise player after that contract is over, he'll get 8+ next time around. At the end of the day he walks away with the same amount of money.

The Columbus Dispatch's Aaron Portzline reported on Monday that agent Kurt Overhardt came back to the team with an offer of a two-year deal worth $9.4 million

Johansen camp has reduced demands to 2 years @ $4.7m per.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them settle in a week or two around ~3.9m per.

With Schwartz signing a 2yr @ $2.35m per, I'd say a 2yr @ $3.25m per is more than fair for Johansen.
